Byron deserves better than that. Especially early on in his working life.

That's crap mate, I know you'll work your magic explaining to him that all employers aren't quite that shit. Hopefully the next job will treat him properly.

After a couple of really shit weeks, I think I've finally got my point across that the team needs some restructuring.

One person is full of shit, but it's able to talk his way into positions he lacks the ability to do. I've tried to play nice and manipulate things so we can get the job done, but that didn't work. So over the last couple of weeks I've stopped helping him, and have happily fed him some rope and he duly hung himself.

One of the bosses is stepping in next week and taking control of things, now it's my turn to manipulate the power curve in my direction. I **** hate office politics.

But on the plus side, I got 30k of share options this week

That's so poor. ASD needs stability in most cases, unexpected change is the enemy, so to have a big opportunity dragged from under you with little or no notice is complete bullshit. I really feel for Byron but something better will turn up!

Does anyone else get a great sense of achievement when they make a spreadsheet work correctly? Or is it just me!

Just a little snippet from mine.. All sorts of combinations of "Not Started", "In Progress", "Planned", and "Completed" with desired outcomes... very enjoyable.

Also, the blue gradient column moves along with today's date. Specific symbols picked up for specific outcomes too.

And of course the boring old conditional formatting.

Good luck mate, I think you’d enjoy that work. Will you have to do a post grad aero engineering?

Royal Mail are interested in an interview too.. still as an Engineer.

It isn't until you see just how far some companies go to provide benefits to an employee that you realise your current employer is doing the bare minimum with a gloss coating!

I was having a chat with a fantastic cell leader / technician at my place yesterday whose department will be decommissioned at year end. He's got more than enough skill to transfer internally but he's looking externally already - very sensible.

Anyway, this Aerospace place I'm interviewing at tomorrow is the first place he mentioned that he wants to work. He knows people who work there and they love it. He says the benefits are excellent but generally speaking they simply care about their employees.

Between this chat and being invited to 2 interviews I'm feeling quite good about myself again.. at least at CV level, I'm still desirable to a company and not stuck in a dead end role in a company who quash my desire to be better.

I’m so over computer based training right now. I’m almost at the end of 3 weeks straight. It’s all defence requirement and takes no former experience into account. I literally had to do a 2 hr intro course in hydrocarbon extraction and processing. I reckon Jess knows enough from listening to me prattle on to have passed the knowledge assessment at the end without seeing the course content (facepalm)

One more day and then next week back down to the Naval port. Which I got told by the State Ops Manager today (I know him from my refinery days) that the remaining fuel there is getting removed in the next 6 months and the tank assessed to either repair or decommission. I really don’t think I’ll be doing much of anything for the foreseeable future.

I’m casually browsing other job opportunities

Approached about a Product Management position, also at an Aerospace company. They seem really keen too and want to setup a call ASAP.
