I got a pay rise. 3.87% I have no idea how they arrived at that figure. It's pretty disappointing to be honest.

No promotion, as I'm effectively working at the top of my tier. Next step is to be a nominated point of contact for clients. My insurer clients have named people they are happy to send instructions directly to. That's the case with 2 of my clients already. I need to persuade the other two.

Will that change increase remuneration or is it more about job satisfaction and responsibility?

I'll get a decent pay rise and work more on my own. I'm in two minds about it. I've learned to live with my salary and there's not much stress involved at present.

I'm just thinking that relative short term responsibility could have big benefits to you beyond the job.. just my 2 pence

FWIW, I applaud people like you and Kiwi, I do not have it in me to put in great effort and produce great work for jobs and managers who don't care about me.

My pension would increase, but I've had a private one since my mid 20s so I'm reasonably well covered (famous last words). I'm going in to the office next week so I'll have a chat to see what exactly the rewards would be.

Second interview today, went as well as the first one. Upper manager that was involved also rides a Ducati and told them to offer me the job on the spot once he found out I do too

Got told I’d be contacted later this week to find out if I was successful or not.

Got a phone call 15 mins later and offered the role.

Just a medical, reference checks, police clearance and defence clearance to get through now before I get a contract to sign.

Byron has secured a role at a cafe 10 mins walk from home after much delays with their opening. They emailed today and offers him 7am-3pm Monday to Friday. They are well aware of his ASD and ADHD and willing to support him entering the work force

That makes me happier than my own offer this week

Months away from the machines and now we've moved sites I feel like a complete beginner. I don't know where anything is, these machines are a bit older and the operators know each machines nuance.... I do not.

I've ended up having one of the setters pretty much do my job for me.. yeah that's right.. someone without qualifications and on low pay doing my job while I stand and watch. Feels shit for both of us.

2 years and still no proper training. I'm not signed off on any machine either but get talked down every time I bring that up... "You're an Engineer, you shouldn't need that"

I’ve been offered 2 start dates

Start mid November but they have Christmas stand down from 20 Dec - 6 Jan so I’d be off on leave no pay as wouldn’t have accrued leave yet

Or start 6 Jan.

I figured till I retire in 12ish years it will be the last time I can take a big chunk of time to be 100% present for the family so it’s worth the month pay I’ll miss out on. It’s been good to be here to help Byron transition to work, be Leila’s (Jess daughter) personal taxi to and from her HSC exams and reduce the stress for her, and cover all the domestic stuff so Jess can focus on her studies and attend call outs for her follow through cases.

Byron’s work…:

So bloody pissed off. Late last Sunday night I got an email saying they were reducing Byron’s hours to 6 hrs a day. All good, expected some adjustment as they found their feet. Late Tuesday night (9.30pm) get an email saying he wasn’t needed on Wednesday. Had a call from them on Wednesday asking about wage subsidy for employing a person with a disability. I said they’d have to call the appropriate government service, not being an employer I had no idea.
Late Wednesday and Thursday nights, same email, no work. I questioned further about next weeks hours and told her have no shifts next week either.

I appreciate they are getting less turnover than they expected but the last minute shift cancellations and the general poor admin I’ve dealt with them (tax stuff etc) has been so frustrating. And now with the knowledge they weren’t going to give him shifts next week, they weren’t upfront and I had to drag that info from them.

So my poor lad has gone from the high of finding work and enjoying the next chapter of life to it all being pulled from under him.

Good I took the later start with my job and have a couple of months to do my best to find something more secure for him.

That can't be easy for Byron to deal with when he's getting messed around like that.
