Interesting, comment on trust. I've been working with a management coach and in modern business that's now deemed incorrect. Apparently now it's looked on that in every relationship you start with an inherent trust. Trust is then a thing that is lost, not gained.C00kiemonster wrote:Very wise. Anyway, work. I've been struggling for months with our lead designer, he's an arrogant, useless, talentless, twat. He couldn't design a paper bag in the first place, let alone get out of it.
After months of saying things need to change and nothing changing I called a crunch meeting with the owners of the company. The outcome of the meeting was that apparently I don't make any effort to communicate with the lead designer, I only tell him that everything he does is wrong. Yet in the same breath they acknowledge that he has no intention of listening to anything I have to say, but I have to make all the changes.
Oh, and to top it off, one of the owners said that I needed to seek professional help and guidance as I obviously have problems.
I've already updated my CV.

Good luck with that - experience tells me thats just going to allow people to take the piss or be useless and live off the credit of that - a lot do. IT used to be edgy, specialist and you couldn't be stupid or you didn't survive.

I realise it's way below your skill levels Jon, but I do recall how much you seemed to enjoy your temporary role during the Cv19 debacle..
With your skillset, and general integrity, you may well fly up the food chain ( <see what I did there ) in that sort of role because you will have the edge over your colleagues.?

Actually it was the absolute opposite of being able to get "one up" that I enjoyed about Morrisons. It was a totally level playing field, everyone was on the same money. Just at the end of 3 weeks face to face training with Defence at my local RAAF Base. Definitely enjoyed the 8.30 am starts and 20 min commutes.
The courses have been designed for Defence personnel and contractors that have had no fuels experience at all, so have been a bit of suck eggs other than learning the defence paperwork system. The instructor has actually used some of my assignment answers to update their instructor guides
. He’s also just given me his bosses email as they are looking to take on more instructors.
And in other news, my Ops Super has confirmed he’s managed me a deal to be seconded to the RAAF Base full time until an actual position becomes available. With the proviso that if there is a job on at Ports they need me for, I’ll head in. But I get to use a company vehicle for that situation as well. Just waiting to hear when that is starting. May be as soon as next week.

Well it’s hit a road block somewhere within corporate levels. My Ops level management are all in agreement so a bit frustrating. My current Ops Super is super cranky but I’m sure it’ll happen.

It’s funny you say that. It’s something I’ve been struggling with lately. The Ops management group keep saying they don’t want to lose my skills and depth of experience, and that they are trying to get across to corporate the asset they have in me. People with my training and background don’t ever drop back to this level, and as you know, for me it’s due purely for personal reasons. But I’m not one to sing my own trumpet and them putting me on a pedestal is making me feel rather uncomfortable. But I do hope I move into something that gives me a challenge sooner than later, or I will find it elsewhere.

I bit the bullet and signed up with a recruitment agency yesterday as they were advertising needing drivers for a contract near my house, I told them about my CD30 endorsement from the GS crash and today they called me saying their insurers were okay with that as I had no other endorsements on my licence and booked me in for a driving assessment on Tuesday.
I'm quite confident about that as I have a very good driving record in Heavy Goods, but I also hate being under a microscope.
I'm also disappointed that to get off nights I am having to change employer and work for an agency, time will tell if it's a good move or not but the slight pay cut will be worth my improved health and routine, this job is based at the local B&Q distribution centre which is about a mile away, I can walk that no problem.

HR posted an internal job vacancy for a position at the RAAF Base just down the road from me, with the express direction from my Ops Super to apply for it, so they can action my transfer "ethically". Application submitted.

It may be short lived.
I’m working through another opportunity that has come up. It’s a government role that is far more challenging and engaging, 40% increase in salary, car/phone/laptop, WFH/Office hybrid, with site visits.
The organisation doesn’t know yet that there is going to be a vacancy. They listed expressions of interest for their talent pool recently, and I had a someone I know quite well in that department . So I talked to him about advice on a submission. Only for him to tell me he’s putting his notice in on Monday. He’s been working on a flying job and has landed an amazing opportunity doing just that.
So he’s coaching me on my submission, and when he hands his notice in is going to give me a personal recommendation. I won’t get his role, but his subordinate will take it, and that role will become open.
It’s a bit of a stretch and jumping a number of levels in the department if I went into this role. But it’s the way my mate got in as well and we have very similar qualifications and experience in the field, so he has no doubt I would be a suitable candidate.
One area that could bring me unstuck is you have to provide a certified copy of your driving record. Although my licence has no demerit points against it currently, it’s far from a ‘clean record’.
So will see how this pans out. If it doesn’t, being at the RAAF Base is still a reasonable gig with scope for movement.
