NEW Bike day-ish, GS Round 2

I went to the dealer today and there it was waiting for me, already prepped and just needing some final bit's of paperwork before I could take it home... But I'm having it delivered to Supreme Coat in Dronfield for a paint protection kit and ceramic coating.

I fitted a paint protection kit to my XR myself and was never fully happy with the installation, there were marks in the paint before the film went on and I'm not very practiced in fitting it so for the most expensive thing I have ever bought (Not managed to get a mortgage yet) I will let the professionals handle it.. I found a discount code so even with the extra work I'm paying less than the standard price


I did bring the panniers home, and should have the bike on Wednesday evening. Then the tinkering begins.

I'm supposed to be picking it up tomorrow afternoon from Supreme coat, checked the forecast and it's dry... And 3°c

Maybe ticking the heated seats option was not a silly thing after all... Now where did I put the winter gloves, it was early September last time I rode.

Got it home in one piece and just about thawed my hands out, the heated seat worked great but my gloves seemed to be great at keeping heat out... Might not use them in winter anymore.

No pics because the bike is filthy and it's dark, I can't wash it for a week.

Happy new bike day Stonesie, pleased to read that you got her safely tucked up at her new home.
The warm feeling inside you get from ownership should last a lot longer than the cold in your fingers..

Minor update,

160 miles in and I had a tinker session, Weiser Wizard modules fitted to the rear to improve the rear indicators, Top box plate fitted and the headlight guard with it's amber DRL filter.

I'm still undecided weather or not to fit the front Wizard modules which would turn off the front indicators which light at half brightness as DRL's, I would still have the headlight DRL and the filter can be removed from the headlight guard. It's not a big job, just a plug in module, after removing most of the front bodywork and top crash bars to get to the plug.

For now the bike has 3 amber lights up front as DRL's, hopefully the unusual look makes drivers take a bit more notice.

I need to give the bike a thorough wash before I fit the mudslingers and some other little bits... And the Yoshi can.



The rear 3 in 1 indicators are a bad design, the stop/tail light surrounds the indicator so when you brake and indicate the indicator gets swamped by the stop light, it is visible but not obvious... The Wizard sees the indicator signal and turns all the red light off on that side until you stop indicating.

That indicator mod sounds like a very good and sensible one to me.

I do remember looking at the XR when it first came out and not being overly convinced by the indicators.

I'm amazed it passes Germany's TUV standards.

Its a crap idea. Lights are there to be visible and alert road users behind, anything that detracts from that cannot be good.

I went for a ride to the coast and back today to deliver some Christmas presents so naturally I took the bike, it was sunny with the temperature in double digits so Gaz came along for the ride, he did say the rear indicators are MUCH better.

The bike did give me a grumble, the SOS system was throwing errors as they seem to do, my last GS did it too but this one had to 1-up the previous model by telling me the oil level was low at 160 miles... I pulled into a garage and fiddled with the intercoms to get my new one connected to Gaz then pulled the bike vertical and looked at the sight glass.. That's on MAX

I am happy that I didn't buy oil before checking the sight glass, if the bike had burned that much oil (0.8L) in 160 miles I think I would have seen the smoke trail.

Something for them to look at when it goes for a service I suppose.

I don't suppose it could be the same warning for "low level oil warning" as "overfilled" Stonesie ?

Nah it's a different warning for over filled, it's oil level is spot-on so it's just a sensor... Just a grumble, not a serious issue.

Overall I'm over the moon with this bike and even my grumpy friend Gaz says that I look so comfortable on it he's seriously considering one.

It was nice in East Yorkshire, we were dropping gifts off in Bridlington

Dealer called, service booked and faults logged for investigation, and the offer of a loan bike so I don't have to wait around, that's the opposite experience to when I had that KTM.
They didn't want to know about problems. Maybe it was a rogue dealership.

BMW after sales is a fantastic experience, they generally really do look after their customers.

I had great service when I had issues with my XR.
