Jack's Updates
I thought it might be a good idea to put all the stuff about me in one thread.
If the Admins would like to move my other posts over that would be great .
I am still awaiting the results of the biopsy procedure , they took 7 different samples on Friday lunchtime it will be a week until the results are back and that will confirm the type and stage of the cancer(s) .
It has been confirmed that I have cancer in the lymph nodes in the chest , a tumour at the top of the right lung extending down toward the bottom of my shoulder blade and also in the Adrenal glands in both kidneys. Inoperable so any treatment will likely be a broad spectrum chemo which is like carpet bombing , I intend to try and get myself as fit as I can to cope with this . I will post more info as it becomes available.

Re: Jack's Updates
Been thinking about you a lot this weekend buddy and I'm gutted for you with that news. It sounds like you're in a fighting mindset though which is fantastic and if there's anything that I can do then let me know. You seem to have accepted what the doctors have said quickly too which is great IMO, no point in fighting yourself, just fight the bastard cancer! I have full faith in you to do what you can mate!

Re: Jack's Updates
Thanks to the massive amounts of IV antibiotics I have had since monday doing its job and knocking ten bales out of the infection , I now have a reasonable appetite , my breathing is more settled , I am not in any pain unless I cough quite a bit , which is much less frequent than it was .
Despite the awful news I'm actually feeling pretty good , I think half the battle is going to be staying positive , I know I won't win every day but I can win almost every day as I have a huge support group of all you guys , my family and friends and the **** ROYAL NAVY .

Re: Jack's Updates
I went to the hospital today to see the consultant , turned out to be a series of appointments to see an array of consultants and specialists .
I got some very specific specifics and some that were disconcertingly vague.
Specifics : I have an aggressive extensive small cell lung cancer late stage . If I do nothing 2-4 months .
Vague Specifics , IF I can take the full Chemo and immunotherapy treatments and IF everything responds as expected then MAYBE 12 - 18 months .
I start treatment on thursday .
EMRA on Sunday.
Never Give Up
Never Surrender .

Re: Jack's Updates
I don't really have any option but to be strong mentally and fight with everything at my disposal , Most of the time I feel as though I am teetering on a knife edge and I could easily collapse into a wet soggy mess but I can't let that happen as I'm not sure I could find a way back . I am very scared .Cav wrote:Your mental fortitude is astonishing!

Re: Jack's Updates
What can any of us say, without it feeling rather glib in these circumstances mate.
I suppose there is an argument for saying that you've only been given a timescale for the same outcome that we all (everybody) must accept, but that most of us can live in denial of purely because of it's unknown quantitative.?
Nonetheless please understand that does nothing to diminish my enormous admiration at your stoic response.
I suspect that you'll battle to prove those medics wrong ? - remember Stephen Hawkins lived 50 years past his terminal prognosis, and isn't Kenneth Lourie still about (with a similar diagnosis to yourself).
We'll all be here for you Jack, even if some of us may feel less helpful than others.
