I think anything along those lines will be very limited. There's a massive industry involved in vehicle modification. It would have a pretty decent impact on jobs and revenue

I was reading another MAG article the other day in which they say that every major city in the UK does not include privately owned vehicles of ny kind in its future transport planning.

Don't just read the headlines.. this is intended to prevent tampering enabling vehicles to engage with automated vehicles and therefore increasing everyone's safety. It won't prohibit your ability to fit heated grips.

I read it too, I reckon decats and aftermarket exhausts would be in question

Yeah I caught that but I hate how misleading they present it. NO MODIFICATIONS! Except it's actually just this, this and that.

I should imagine they're specifying those items as they are the most popular mods, as well as the most practical to enforce.

The way I read it, it is not banning mods as such. But 'tampering' with existing systems, pertaining specifically to safety, environmental and security.
Modifications, as in adding items, heated grips, padded seats, screens etc would still be ok, but rip out a cat, put in a free flowing exhaust, remap, alter software pertaining to automation integration systems would be a no-no.

I really am surprised we as bikers can still rip cat's out tbh. It's been highly illegal in all other automotive types for years, at least in NZ and Australia

It seems exhausts are the target of this. DfT have released an update saying anything that increases emissions will be made illegal in any new legislation. Not really a surprise.

Not surprised at all. Aftermarket exhaust manufacturers are going to have to get creative now! Still be a market for a better looking system even if the hp gains aren’t there

From this article, yes it seems to be primarily noise and emissions targeted.

We were invited to a meeting with DfT officials on 27th October to discuss this section of the consultation. They were quick to admit this could have been worded better; it is NOT intended to prevent customisation of bikes or the fitting of aftermarket products that do the same job, or better, as the original equipment. It IS intended to apply to anything which affects emissions, the computerised systems which are installed and such devices as the dongles advertised for increasing the speed on e.g. e-scooters

Ms Zee also clarified that the law would likely be retrospective, meaning if you bought a bike with an illegally modified exhaust system, you’d effectively inherit that problem.

Will there? Isn't this for new vehicles? If it's for all vehicles then it will write off most cars over 15 years old and a lot of 5 year old+ cars will also be illegal. Who has ever replaced their rusted exhaust system for a genuine one?
