The sun is shining and it's warm, so it would have been rude not too go for a lunchtime spin.
Initial thoughts, it's tiny and I mean really tiny. There are few bikes I can put both feet flat on the floor with, and this is one of them. The bars are also very wide, nearly as wide as the engine!
Yep, it's a 1200 boxer.
I've never ridden a boxer before, so starting it was quite an experience. The sidewards shaking of the bike as the big pistons started moving is quite something.
The BMW blurb has it down as a relaxed and comfortable riding position. Maybe I've been spoiled by the XR and the GS, but to me it felt like riding a pit bike. Very small and cramped. I think after an hour I would be in need of a break.
I took to some local lanes, and it became apparent that is a little bit of a beast. The exhaust note has a great base line and seems very loud for standard cans. It also pulls like a train, but with 80ftlb of torque it probably should. Overtaking is a breeze.
The suspension is very firm, too turn for my liking these days. It's also very quick to turn despite being quite heavy.
I also think it's a pretty good looking bike.
Would I buy one, nope. I'd never make it to stow for cake with all my teeth intact.
