He did move , it may have been by a tiny amount and he didn't gain any advantage that I can see but rules are rules .

I'm with Jack. The punishment might not fit the crime but the rules are laid out for everyone.

I ve watched the side on video and he does role ever so slightly but its tiny and right AS the lights change or a milli second before.

I accept rules are rules but I thought Freddie Spencer was brought into to help see it from a riders point of view. Cal rides for an independent team and a podium which was really likely could help secure valuable and much needed sponsorship. Would have ride through the "New Ride Through Loop" or drop a place, have been a more appropriate punishment for ANY minuscule advantage that may have been perceived to be gained???

It is a harsh punishment. But it's the same for everyone. Hopefully they'll look at it for next season. A 5 second penalty would seem to be fairer IMO

Does the rule book specifically define a jump start must have a pitlane ride through?

I don't know factually if it does or doesn't but I did think the ride through loop was brought in this year for this exact reason.

"Any rider who anticipates the start will be required to carry out the ride through described under article 1.19".

"The motorcycle must be stationary at the time the red lights are turned off. Anticipation of the start is defined by the motorcycle moving forward at the time the red lights are turned off."

"In the case of a minor movement and subsequent stop whilst the red lights are on, the designated officials will be the sole judge of whether an advantage has been gained."

Reading the last para, Mr Spencer could have been more appropriate with any punishment awarded.

The no movement rule was bought in because the old rule that you weren't allowed to cross the line before the flag/lights was being abused and riders were anticipating the start and getting in effect a rolling start from the back of their grid box .

No, he couldn't. Cal needed to have moved AND stopped before the lights went off. He didn't. So there was no discretion.

I think they did the same in F1. That's why there's usually a white line on the floor next to the driver so he can find his spot on the grid and park.

The trick is to convince everyone else that they think I'm right
