Gear Indicators

I know some of the newer bikes have a gear indicator on the speedo cluster and theres the option to add one with a retro fit.

Those who have a bike that are equipped with them, are they useful and do you use them much ??

I don't have one, but the amount of times I've gone for that elusive 7th gear on the Zed has had me wondering the same thing.

Hardly use mine to be honest.

As long as you are in the right gear, it doesnt matter waht number it is, and I tell if its right bu the noise/response/revcounter

I know I'm in the right gear because the mrs helps me get dressed before I go out.

I'm always trying to get 7th gear, doesn't go in very easily

The Mutley has one and its useful.

Certainly miss it when on the other bike but only usually when in the lower gears around town etc.

I tend to use mine when I'm pootling about on A roads or motorways. It's useful to have but I could live without one.

If I saw someone with a retro fitted gear indicators.....first thing I think is "Novice"

I have one and I think it's a very handy tool, slow speed riding, which what I'm now very proficient at :-)it's very useful.

I now know my bike hasn't got 10 gears :-)

Mine has one already in the cluster and I like it. It's a good tool and not to be looked down on I think.

It's well placed and clear on the Kwak.

virtually all my bikes have had one, ive just got used to it being there. like has been said i don't use it all the time just now & again.

Agreed the Kwak is very clear. When I had the Gullarm CBR 400RR it never had one and I found it annoying, I always tried to shift either further down than 1st or higher than top gear lol!

Oh the CBR 400's, I had 3 and I was always looking for more or less gears on mine, made for some interesting trips

I never thought I'd use it, but on the Kwack I did find myself glancing at it when commuting.

Now on the speed triple I don't have one again, and all of a sudden realised how much I had been looking at it.

I don't think its needed as you are either in the right gear or not. It is useful when cruising at 70ish on the motorway and knowing you are already in top and saves you going for another gear.

I have a gear indicator on my beloved little 675 Spudda.

It is the first bike I have ever owned with one. Previously I have always "judged" my gears, ( and still do on my CBR400 ).

The only time I have found the gear selector useful is on track: sometimes I check it when I want to enter a corner in the correct gear to maximise my momentum through it.

Tbf, if I didn't have it I personally wouldn't bother fitting one, & I don't think I'd miss it much .

I think if you've never had one you wouldn't bother fitting one, but when you have had one it comes in really handy.

My MV was the first bike for me which had it, although it was quite small, then my gixxer has a mahoosive one which I seem to have spent my time admiring for a bit too long on a couple of occasions
