Collapsed CAT or Lego bricks

I've not ridden the bike for over 3 weeks and so far only taken the can off and had a look in the baffle box.
The bike is going into the garage on Monday for it's first chain and sprockets, I'm not doing the first front sprocket change on a Kwak. So thinking I might get them to take the headers off and knock out the CATs while it's in. Or just retrieve the Lego bricks!

No idea. It does sound like thick plastic.

Re: Collapsed CAT or Lego bricks
I've found one example of it happening on the Internet, and strangely it happened just after he'd fitted an aftermarket can.
I hope it is the CAT, they were coming out this winter anyway and was going to fit a pinebox

Re: Collapsed CAT or Lego bricks
Cats do get very hot, iirc the early 675's had a problem with them overheating and deforming which led to partial blockage of the exhaust and a fair bit of power loss, the engines ran weaker with an aftermarket can (less back pressure), and a weak mixture is a hotter mixture - adding to quicker cat failure.Kwacky wrote:Maybe the gasses are hotter so cause it to crumble?

Re: Collapsed CAT or Lego bricks
Did you remove the exhaust valve and disconnect all the cables when you changed the exhaust?

No still there and connected, it's built into the Akro. First thing I checked, took the can off and it's fine.duke63 wrote:Did you remove the exhaust valve and disconnect all the cables when you changed the exhaust?
Dropping it off at the garage this lunch time.

Re: Collapsed CAT or Lego bricks
Garage phoned and there's something loose and rattling around behind the CATs. They are knocking them out as we speak, can't wait to hear what it sounds like.

Re: Collapsed CAT or Lego bricks
Sorted, the first CAT had come loose and was rattling on the second one. Sounds much better now and loads of pops and bangs
So glad I didn't try and fit those new sprockets, theres no way I could have got the front sprocket off. Their own impact driver couldn't budge it and they had to borrow one off the Snap-On rep

Re: Collapsed CAT or Lego bricks
Kwaks are known for that tight front sprocket.
Glad it's all sorted.

Re: Collapsed CAT or Lego bricks
I bet that spent 1 minute fishing out a lego brick and then charged Monty for a few hours labour to remove the offending CAT.
