Useful tools

Thanks to the forum I've picked up a few tools that I probably wouldn't have otherwise discovered. Just thought I'd start a thread and see what other gems people have lying round that you might not usually think of?
So far I have a £10 boroscope camera with a 2 metre lead. It comes with leds built in to see in dark areas and a magnet attachment to pluck screws etc from places fingers won't reach. I can see a lot of use for that in the future!
I have a £5 mechanics stethoscope for pinpointing noises on an engine.
My favourite tool I have which I never see but I think people might like are these

Brilliant scrapers which don't damage paintwork. They're very strong and stiff so you can use them to prise things apart when a metal tool would leave a mess. "Facom scraper set" if anyone wants them! I think they're primarily for removing wheel weights but I use them for everything from scraping tape and gunge off paintwork to removing gasket from delicate surfaces.
What else can I add to the collection?

Those scrapers look good. I may invest in some.

ordered a set of those scrapers think they will come in useful when rebuilding the rs250.


I have built up my tools over the years and have a selection i could not do with out fortunately i have a friend that owns a garage and my other friend next door is an engineer so if i struggle with anything they usually have a tool or even make one to do the job.If i use it a few times is usually gets added to my selection unless it costs a fortune. This has got me out of the dodo a few times and only got it 6 months ago.

I own three norbar torque wrenches British made and known as the best,I also find halfords tools very good quality and price

StMarks I got the boroscope from ebay- item no 201501815738 You can choose different cable lengths etc. You can hook it up to PC or Android phone but NOT apple phones!

Feck...have absolutely loads..."buy once, buy for life", etc....so I like the good stuff. That, plus 30 years as a mechanic has netted me quite a collection of oddball sh*t that I'll buy in Old Town Orange just because I like old things. Building bicycles, etc. has also helped quite a bit.

Snap-On are the benchmark here...but I have some really nice allen-drivers for RC cars that work great instead of a wrench in hard to reach places. Decent safety-wiring pliers are a must for trackdaying/racing.
Good soldering iron (100W) and silver solder for electrical stuff...has the best conductivity by far.

Good shout Obd2 is a very useful tool especially if you can graph live data which is available on relatively cheap equipment these days.

Perks did you know the zx10r has on board self diagnosis ? Very useful feature and we'll done Kawasaki for featuring it hopefully other manufacturers will follow suit.
