Spam Accounts
We are being bombarded by spam accounts this morning so I've shut registrations for 24 hours.

Re: Spam Accounts
How come they don't delete the spam accounts on 675cc? Is it to keep the member numbers up?

Re: Spam Accounts
Fwiw mate, since the time when I was enlisted as a moderator on 675.cc, I alone have banned over 100x spam accounts & I'm far from the forum's most prolific team member.!Kwacky wrote:How come they don't delete the spam accounts on 675cc? Is it to keep the member numbers up?
Our (alluded to) kitchen spammers epidemic was little short of epic.
* Edit,: You've removed all my posts

Re: Spam Accounts
I'm not aware of any facility within my jurisdiction that enables me to delete an account Kwacky, but maybe I simply don't know how.? (I'm not a proper moderator, more like Craig's "poacher turning project", I thinkKwacky wrote:I know they get banned but they don't get deleted do they?

Re: Spam Accounts

The problem with keeping spam accounts live on your site (banned or not) is that they tend to attract others.

Re: Spam Accounts
Same comments as StM, as mods on 675.cc we don't have the capability to delete accounts, although we can ban member accounts, email and IP addresses, accounts can only be deleted by Site admin - which I suppose covers yourself and Mr Nutz over here. The problem with banning them is that with no point of reference you can't ban their IP addresses, we ended up preventing a large chunk of Asia the ability to join to get it under control iirc.

Right, registration is open again but it's admin approved only.
Let's see what happens.

Re: Spam Accounts
There appears to be a much bigger issue than a few spam accounts trying to register on Tankslap. The guys who run phpBB have had an online attack. They've taken their servers down.
We're going to keep registration shut for about a week while we make sure our onsite security is up to scratch.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Re: Spam Accounts
No. It's not just Tankslap being affected by this issue. It looks like it's a much bigger problem.

Phew I'm glad unsure what I'd do without popping onto Tankslap!Kwacky wrote:The site will remain open for registered users but we're not allowing any new registrations for a bit.
