I cant help but feel the higher sentence is simply because the clip went viral so they are using it as an example, Feel a bit bad for him coz being honest it could so easily be any of us, we all push our luck sometimes, he was just unlucky it was then and on camera which then got picked up by even mainstream news I guess

He was well below the standard expected of a competent motorist at many points during his video, I think crossing the solid white line was what sealed the dangerous conviction.

I agree with Kwacky its a a bit extreme.

Yes he was a prat and his driving was well below a good standard but IMO they have made an example of him because of the pubilicty surrounding the event.

Crossing the white line was stupid but it in itself would unlikely be the cause of the dangerous driving conviction as it is normally dealt with as offence TS20 and carries a fixes penalty of 3 points and £100 fine.

The minimum he will get will probably be community service, a fine ands a mandatory 12 month ban. Which is what I was given for the same offence under different circumstances.

You are also lumbered with a criminal record after a dangerous driving conviction which can be very much a pain in itself since you don't realise how often you have to declare these things until you have one along with inflated insurance costs for 5 years post conviction.

I suspect he might be forced to retake his test too.

Some of his riding was just plain bad, not someone going a bit quick on the roads. He doesn't look as though he is in proper control quite a bit of the time.

the extended retest is mandatory for the longer bans as far as I'm aware. I think for any ban of 12 months +

Maybe just maybe it might save his life. If you are going to film yourself then at least do it when your riding skills live up to it !!!

A 12 month ban is the minimum he can get with an extended retest required at the end of it. I'm pretty sure if he doesn't get locked up he will get community service too.

It's an unfortunate situation but if that car had been travelling a little faster the outcome could have been massively different. The key to all this is his video though, If he hadn't have posted it or even recorded it I doubt there would have been any charges brought at all.
