Very sad, even with all the success he was not happy, depression is a bitch.

It's a shame when depression takes a hold like that.

Yep, with you there mate, everyone has a breaking point, and you don't truly appreciate that fact until you have been close to your own. Depression has no discretion, it hits at all levels of individual.

RIP Robin, a great loss

Unfortunately society does not treat mental illness with the seriousness that it should.

It is an illness and needs treatment just like any other but due to the way it manifests itself the patient might not appreciate that they are ill and need help until its too late.

If anything positive does come out of such a sad situation it might be to make others seek help before its too late.

Spot on there Duke. I was lucky in that I had a couple of people take the time to make me aware of my state, which was no mean feat as I was so deep in denial. I think the biggest thing, especially for the middle aged bloke demographic, is mates not ignoring the signs, be pushy if you think it's warranted, it just might save a life.

And hopefully I don't sound preachy, but for god sake keep your exercise up, those endorphins are magical things, it's not just your body that benefits.

The problem with doctors in the UK is they dont have more than ten minutes to treat you ,if you are suffering with anxiety and or depression you need time to talk and get things off your chest,Most doctors just want to write a prescription for anti depressants, which in my case made me worse and led to a pysch ward admission.FrIends and and family really do carry you through this for sure,Such a waste of a life in this case I wonder what support network he had and why it went wrong

Kate does this for a living. She got really depressed (think it was living with me) and didn't want drugs. It was all the doctor would do for her though. In the end she got her work to send her to 'wellbeing' centre.

She ended up training and now teaches it herself in the local town.

She's still mental though. keeps buying dogs.

The latest reports say that he was in the early stages of Parkinsons. No evidence of drink or drugs.
