Geek advice on a laptop
Geek advice on a laptop
Well tomorrow I'm getting my fibre broadband connected. I won't bore you with the details , but it's through a company called B4RN. Broadband for the rural north. Basically a kind of cooperative that sprung up when BT refused to connect rural areas due to a lack of profitability. It's an amazing undertaking , if anyone can be bothered looking it up.
The question I'm asking is , as I'm not really a computer man , what laptop do I buy to make the most of super fast unlimited broadband?
The acer I've had for about 4 years has slowed to a stop almost and I want a new one.
I've been told to look for something with a fast processor, but they may as well have told me to look for a flux capacitor. Id say I want to spend less than £400.
I have a Sony Bravia tv that my mate reckons I could hook up to the laptop and stream films ??
Any ideas ?

Play games, video editing, using it for work etc.
If you're just browsing how about a Chromebook?

Or is the screen too small?

I'll have a look at one of them when I go to pc world. By the looks of it that won't do what my lass needs it to do for work, but maybe she should buy her own anyway

Getting the best laptop you can afford from PC world should be fine for your needs. That's what I did and bought a Lenovo. Been really happy with it.
I'd say the only consideration might be if you want a blueray player in it or not (if liking to telly)

Lenovo are a really good brand. They were recommended to me when I was looking for a new laptop.

Make sure both the rooter and the wireless card in the new laptop are 802.11ac.

Re: Geek advice on a laptop
My current rooter from last August doesn't support it, but my laptop does.

The router is being supplied so I can change that. So for now I'm looking for a Lenovo with a fancy wifi card.

My work laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad, not a bad bit of kit. Very well put together.
