Sole engineer today again and our all of our 3 scoping systems decided to pack up at the same time. 2x software, 1x hardware. I'm certainly being tested!

That was a tough week and what a way to celebrate 1 year there.
On the second solo day the VP was pressing me for on time delivery of documents and implementation of products for their latest client, this is the guy who manages my boss and he absolutely has awareness of my teams situation yet was still impressing upon me that I must get it done on time. There's no fecking way and it was super tight to the deadline even if I was left to do only that.
Oh... yesterday my Manager was also chasing me for work. Get fvcked! He rang me just before the end of my shift today to ask how my week went. I laughed and asked if he was serious... he was. I opened up and told him about the VP and he didn't have anything to say.
Needless to say I'm very much looking forward to my interview on Tuesday.

Back into the fire today. 3 of our 5 strong team are in today, each of us are just looking at each other and not knowing where to start. One of these colleagues had a job offer post-interview last week and he has more interviews lined up.

first day back yesterday after two weeks off, horrendous day of stuck on traffic and being shouted at in a meeting
All topped off with the biggest order intake in the company history for the first two months, apparently not good enough though

Looks like I might have to do some.
Just waiting for the final paperwork, but look to have landed a contract after 3 months out.

Another interview lined up. Closer to home than the last but slightly worse off financially despite a small pay rise. It would be a good career move as people and project management are involved.

I didn't get the Oxford job - purely salary reasons. Obviously I asked for enough to cover my commute costs.

Teams interview for a Project Engineer role went well today. Spoke with the recruiter afterward and gave my feedback, they're likely to get back to him by the end of the week allegedly.
I think the role is a good future prospect as it's a firm introduction into leadership. Closer to home than the other one but still requiring a car.

They got back to my recruiter already.
Negatives (as they were portrayed to me):
Can't quite match my required salary
Because....
They want me to go through a whole bunch of official training and gain qualifications... paid for by them... immediately.
Apparently that's a negative!

that was music to my ears! All I've been asking my manager for is training to better do my job and for responsibility. The MD at this place specified about 4 different courses.. so circa 5-8k most likely.
Positives.... well they really like me and I'm a higher caliber than they were expecting to come across.
We have some negotiating to do and a 2nd interview on site will happen but so far it looks like that I'll be taking a short-ish term pay decrease for somewhere willing to invest in me.

Agree with the others Cav, at the very worst you’ll pick up further qualifications and experience in another sector. And if they have already recognised your calibre hopefully they will be keen to protect their investment by listening to your input unlike the current bunch of muppets you are having to endure.
Good luck with the new gig Jon!

Snowed under at work, firefighting every day which is very draining and hard to know when to switch the laptop off

Leave the laptop in the car.
The more work you do for your company the more they expect from you.

This ^^ , and if you "battle on, put in the effort & don't make a fuss" those are the terms they will always come expect from you . Rather than value you more for doing so( imho ) it can actually undermine you in the longer term.
