My boss has put me in for a pay rise and a promotion.

Knowing my lot they'll give me a promotion and tell me I might get a pay rise next year if I do ok at my new level.

"Promotion" = (generally) More workload, more responsibility, greater accountability. Therefore awarding you the promotion, but no wage increase sounds like a brilliant plan,,

Got some toxic and useless managers at work at the moment, they plan our workload and have all the up to date info from our tachometer cards right there on the computer, they are consistently overbooking drivers and making barely vailed threats if we try to refuse a delivery for any reason but here's the kick in the balls..
It's the driver's fault and responsibility if we go over the average working hours limit.

The managers and planners take no responsibility at all for being terrible at their jobs.

That's a recipe for disaster in your line of work

What do they expect you to do...just drive faster??

That's appalling mate.. I've never understood how people in offices don't understand that when you sum all the hours, if it's over the max, it is too much and cannot be done.

They expect us to use POA, period of availability which is neither working time or a break... In the EU it's classified as a break.

I refuse to use it while making a delivery because I'm working, I'm in the trailer doing things for the company so that's working time.

All the short shifts are going to agency drivers, the in house drivers are getting shafted and it's starting to smell like constructive dismissal... It's very short sighted, one agency is charging £500 per driver, per shift so £2.5k per week.
I earn around £1 k per week before tax, working to the legal max which is the only reason I have put up with it for this long.
Forcing me out will cost more than double for a driver who will do less, he won't be trained on the moving floor double deck trailers and won't do the hours.

Found myself on the lookout for new jobs again.

Things not improved?

Since my return from Paternity leave things are immediately back to how they were before I had time off work for mental health. This time he's even more (I can't think of the word right now but essentially argumentative and interrogative).

I'm going nowhere in this business and the golden handcuffs are getting heavily tarnished now.

I'm starting to regret the switch into permanent employment.

Contacting was easy, nobody gave a shit about me and I didn't give a shit about anyone else. The job got done and I got paid. Simples.

Now I'm slowly drowning in the quagmire of political bollocks where no matter what I do to try and improve things I'm always wrong. I've raised my concerns and we're going through a process of change apparently.

Stop the roundabout, I wanna get off!

It’s the contract that I had been signed up to be a consultant on but the company I signed with, lost their rebid on the tender. The base job is a solid wage, 20 mins down the road, where I first worked when I moved to Aussie. I can do the job in my sleep and I’ll get to work with my mate again. Room for progression as well. I’d have the flexibility of being in the immediate area for the kids should they need me and home at 3.30pm everyday.

So a couple of days ago I got rung by UGL HR and asked if I would interview for the role. Good right? Except the role isn't at the RAAF Base down the road at all, it's at a Naval Fuel Installation in Sydney Harbour a minimum 1.5 hr drive and $20 in tolls, EACH WAY! I voiced my concerns over the commute and they asked for me to interview anyway, and decide later.

I rang my mate to ask WTF? Seems the manager (who looks after all NSW facilities) jumped the gun a bit. There is a bloke at an Army facility that has indicated he wants to retire very soon, and a bloke at the RAAF Base that wants to transfer to that spot as it's closer to home. That will then open up a spot at the RAAF Base.

So today HR called with the interview details and I confirmed with them that if a spot does come up closer to home that I'd be able to transfer. So if I get the offer, I'm going to take it. The process of onboarding takes a while as I have to be vetted for a defence clearance first, so the role may even be available before I start. Regardless, once I'm in the company it's going to be easier to get in at the base in the future.

The upside is it's in a beautiful historic spot and I'll be working on the water again, something I've unexpectedly missed.

Had the interview for the Defence Fuels job yesterday. Went as well as I could have hoped expect the Ops manager worries I was a tad over qualified and would get bored. Did my best to convince him otherwise and waxed on about continuous improvement to procedures and involvement in other projects.

Couldn’t quite tell him I’m an expert in internet surfing away a quiet 12 hr night shift

Well that seems positive… from my mate who already works at the base…
Further update.. Just had a call from HR, told I’m in he top 3 candidates and a further interview next week.
