And big. I wouldn't mess with one. A kick can do some serious damage.

There's been a bit of backlash for the guy that cracked the roo. Of all things he's a zoo keeper.

.....Yep. And the fact that he was a zookeeper would indicate that he knew the best way to tackle the situation.
But no.....let him and the fecking dog get injured/maimed, etc.....so the greenies can feel good about themselves saving an oversized rodent.

Yep most sane people are of the same opinion Kwacky and D41. You are always going to get the bleeding hearts go overboard. I'm not one for animal cruelty at all, but his accounts were justified and the minimum he could do to safely rescue his dog. He would have been well in his rights to shot the bloody thing and nothing would have been said.

If they are cooked right. Needs to be maximum med-rare. Any more and they get a bit tough.D41 wrote:.....Never occurred to me that they'd make decent eats.......are they any good??
The Aussies eat everything. I've eaten roo, croc, emu and snake. Apparently it's the only country you can eat the Coat of Arms

Yep....had rattlesnake a few times. It's surprisingly tasty, if a bit greasy. I think most things are pretty good IF they're prepared properly...otherwise people wouldn't eat the stuff. It's just things that are unfamiliar that seems 'odd'.

It's a very gamey meat, but i grew up on venison so quite to my tastes. But definitely go med-rare. And give me a shout if you ever come over to Sydney way.R34PER wrote:i had a roo steak last time i was there, i had it medium and it was tough as hell (to be fair it looked more medium to well), i might try it rare next time to see if it's any better.

I like more of a 'Cajun-style'....thin, crispy outer "shell"...mebbe just a few MM thick, then still twitching on the inside.
