Oxford Protex Stretch Cover

I bought one of these for my Z1000sx after being disappointed with the poor quality of the R and G adventure cover.

At £80 it is very expensive for a bike cover, but at a quikc look it seems to be worth the money. It's made from soft material so it won't scratch the bike. It is very soft. It feels like an indoor cover.

Features are:-

Double stitched nylon for strength and durability
Lock pouches at front and rear
Soft lining to prevent scratches to bike
Ventilated to reduce condensation
Reflective panels for added visibility
3 layer material for weather protection
Elasticated bottom with adjustable belly strap
Lock holes font and rear
Clear panel for Oxford Solariser battery charger
Rear window to show number plate

Because it stretches it is less likely to move on the bike, which is a cause of paint damage you get from other covers.

The holes for the locks are well made and well placed.

Hopefully I'll get my money out of this one.

Sounds very similar to my Oxford Storm ex one. Really like the Storm ex so can only imagine the pretex is equally as good. Shame about the R&G one you would of thought coming from such a hi g brand it would be up there with the rest of them

Holy thread resurrection...

As I've not got the RSV back at home, but an still without a shed, I needed a decent cover and after reading this post decided to go with the Oxford.

I have to agree with kwacky on the fact this doesn't fell like an outdoor cover at all, it's very light and very soft on the inside.

So yesterday and overnight we had some pretty crap weather, and that gives me the perfect chance to see how the bike has faired.

I've only connected the clip that goes under the bike, and have added nothing extra to secure the cover. It is exactly where I left it, the wind hasn't managed to move it one bit.

I've also lifted the cover and the bike is bone dry. What more can you ask for from a cover.

The only thing I'm not a fan of is the huge Oxford logo on the side.

It was very windy last night so I expected to see the cover half off, but it hadn't budged.

Not cheap but hopefully I'll get my money out of it.

This looks the same as nine only under a different name, mines the Oxford Storm Ex (i think it's called, 80quid RRP) mine leaves my bike beautifully dry. Although it is joendirty inside because of the dirt on the bike, whoops! I think to be honest if these covers were to lift it wouldn't be worth that amount of cash. I got mine for less than 40quid because of a deal the sales lady was willing to go for (with other things thrown in) at NEC and it is prefect!

The storm ex is different material. These stretch ones feel like an item of clothing. It's weird that they're waterproof.

I've got a Stormex that I bought when I first got the R1 (it was parked outside) and it's the only decent thing with an Oxford logo I've ever owned.

Part of me wants to buy one of these to compare to the storm ex maybe I should by a little scooter so I can have the reason to get one of these!

I like your thinking rossgo, but don't just limit yourself to a scooter. You need a proper bike to test a proper cover

Came home from walking the dog and noticed the front of the cover was up. Took the dog in the house then went to put the cover back.

It wasn't up, it's torn from the bottom right up to the middle of the front. I'll take some photos tomorrow, for now I've put an old R&G cover over the top.

14 months old so it's out side of warranty but I'll ask Oxford anyway to see if I get a reply.

I'm surprised that has ripped as it's very thick material. You sure someone hasn't put a pair of scissors to it to take a look at the bike? Only reason I ask is mine I wouldn't be able to rip by accident I would only assume it would have to be done on purpose.

That's possible, but there was only a 20 minute window to cut the cover and take a look. It was about 7pm as well so it's a risk to walk into my garden and do that.

I'll get the cover off and take a look at it later on.

I see mate. Just throwing the possibility out there, let us know what you think it looks more like a tear or a scissored cut. To be honest I hope it's a manufactured problem rather than a thief eyeing up your commuter

Thankfully I've got a spare cover. I've ordered a new Protex, I still think they're good covers.

Does that resolve your expired warranty issue, in a few months time.?

Well I'm glad it was the wind and not someone deliberately doing it. Personally agree I have the Storm ex one and that really is superb, it's showing signs of wear now and the waterproof joins are now starting to fall off but it's lasted a year and half now which I'm happy with if I can stretch it to 6 months more then I'd be very happy...if longer then big smiles all around!!
