I think the rear and the foot rest area is a lot more cleaned up than on the road bike which is a very messy design in these two area imo.
Perhaps a set of rearsets and and a tail tidy will fix that on the road bike though.

I have seen a couple R1's on track days recently, they are quick, but the looks just don't grab me, like we when you see a new model of something you stop and stare, this one I have not even given a second glance to.
I saw one outside Park Lane BMW and took a good look around, but again it really did not make me go WOW.....

I agree the r1 looks are marmite,I had a good look around one when I bought my zx10r and didnt like it.The front end is quite ugly

I quite like it (the new R1 shape) it's not the previous model which is very cool but this one is different and I like that as I recogn we will see different designs soon from.other manufactures to modernise what we think bikes should look like. Eg the new Daytona is conpletly different to the last one but people love it now more than they did the first time seeing it.
Anyway as for that pipe I really don't like it maybe should be brushed metal or carbon effect in my opinion
