Is it getting a bit too popular now?
I like the road but there are plenty of other good roads around Wales.
The copper I was speaking to told me he was dealing with the 3rd crash of the day on that road. He said the locals are starting to get pissed off with it being closed so often. I was warned that there will probably be some active policing of the road for a couple of weeks to keep the locals happy. If that doesn't work there could be pressure to have it all 50mph and double white lines.

If riders keep crashing then the police will find a way of stopping it. There have been a few fatalities on there in recent years and not always bikes but that record makes it easy for councils and police to insist on prevention methods.

Doing a quick google search there has been 3 fatalities in as many months which clearly can't be allowed to continue and the police will be forced to act.
There was quite a big police presence in the area anyway. We saw at least 2 maybe 3 camera vans and 4 unmarked police cars yesterday.

Too popular ?? Not sure about that but certainly if the accident trend goes up it will gather unwanted attention from different agencies. I've been riding that road for several years off and on but not sure if the accident trend is on the increase ?? Certainly I have seen crackdowns by visible policing in the past .

Met a guy in Newtown on Friday who was riding a Tom Skye's replica zx10r complete with race can and cut down numberplatre (although still legal). He told me it was an ex Police bike and it was the Police who had done all the mods including the race rep paint job. Definitely not your normal plain Jane unmarked bike and would blend in with the sportsbike crowd very easy.

Well on the way back I saw the stupid collision warning signs the police had put out. (The one that tell you how many accidents have been on the road in the last 12 months)I got totally distracted by them and lost my way in the corner the place they put the signs was rediculus right before the apex of a corner I wanted to kick them over nearly made me crash.
"80mph" sorry officer I possibly could not have done that I'm no Valentino Rossi.

Old news, but I doubt the size of the unmarked fleet will have changed by much.
If you can believe it 352 unmarked Police cars in North Wales in 2008 alone. The number is considerably larger than the fleet of marked cars.

There was a lot of warning signs about temporary road surfaces even though there was no evidence of any road works for along time in these locations.
Do you think these could be to get other road users who maybe using excessive speed to slow down ?

This is a shame but when people are going out and having these mishaps should everyone be to blame? Would decrease of speed really help...I personally think it's just an easier way of catching speeders to be honest. If it's posted got to stay to it! But do people? So then their answer would be "over the coming years we're investing millions...into speed cameras up and down these type of roads.
Problem is people do go out and go beyound what their capable of, this is riders and drivers so teaching g the nation how to read the road would be the best and most efficient way helping reduce incidents. So why don't the government invest the money into changing the driving licence requirements. At the mo you just pass a test and apparently it makes you as good as everyone else and can drive how you like. I personally would like to see tests - not test and also a recording device into the car recording speed, location and time. Insurance can tap into this for all new drivers.
A few years back I saw a aftermath of what a car can do to a cyclist, the driver was a little Chaved up brat burying his face into his hand and his girlfriend screaming and crying her tits off. It was a 40 I'm very doubtful he was doing 39 (as I'm sure he said that to the crew of police and ambulance that gathered around him and the cyclist). Ridiculous he must of been 17 poss 18. Pretty sure the cyclist was killed or if he wasn't then he must of just had a bad nose bleed
I think the driving test has been far too easy for too long. Needs radically changing.

They won't need speed cameras soon.
I suspect it wont be very long at all before all vehicles can be tracked most of the time and they can do pretty much that now anyway.

we have trackers on our company fleet cars and they never work,so dont get to hung up about them

Some one will come up with a jammer or correction offset to change the data. No sooner has someone invented a fool proof system than someone has come up with a way round it.

You can already buy jammers and fake loggers to get round the ones put on commercial vehicles.

Something needs to get done for the younger guys. They really are too cocky and I can understand why insurance is so high when younger. Maybe I'm getting old now but experience and training are the keys to riding/.driving our British roads.
