Maybe we need to make a energy efficiency/renewables thread

Did the same thing Saturday with the two daughters. They just asked me to take them shopping, and I didn’t click it was “Christmas shopping” or that shops would be crazy due to proximity to Christmas. When it took 30 mins to get into the parking building and find a park I knew it screwed.
Definitely tapped out by the time we got back.

I would go with propane for the domestic market, similar COP to CO2 but has a much better COP with larger delta Ts than CO2. Also, most CO2 heat pumps want to switch off at 37C and above return temperatures.kiwikrasher wrote: ↑07 Dec 2024, 13:15 Well, if you are going to be a show off
But, yeah on the small scale I’ve experienced, CO2 is amazingly efficient and I’m gutted it took me this long for on work it out!
The high-temperature performance of propane and the larger delta T (30C to 40C) make it the perfect replacement for existing wet radiators with gas condensing boilers. Much more likely to be able to use the existing radiators as the flow rates are significantly lower due to the larger delta Ts than traditional heat pumps.

The wind kinda trashed some of the outdoor Christmas decorations, so I guess I'll try & put them back up and maybe secure them a little better.

Oh I agree, but on my street EVERYONE puts up these arch-things with lights, so all the sidewalks are lit up at night...it's cheap & effective, etc.
Anyway, they always get put up the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Re: What are you doing today ??
Pulled a massive yacca plant out from near our front door steps. Thing has been growing for last 14 yrs a loves the environment here and had got way out of hand. Had started to damage brick work so time to go.
Trimmed it all down to the base and tried to winch it out. Pulled the 4WD down the driveway. So changed tacks and with a long winch extension rope aimed the 4WD down the road and three big hits finally saw it fly out.
Now I have to work out how to break down the stump

Have you seen the Bluey episode called 'Stump'? It's about a group of fathers having a day to play pulling stumps out of the garden... I now feel this is a fun Aussie thing to do

Thankfully my kids are beyond that genre of tv show now so I’m yet to see even one episode.
Just glad I invested in good quality recovery winch gear, it’s come in handy indeed!

That's one heck of a long cable you ran...I didn't realize a vehicle winch held that much line.

Re: What are you doing today ??
That’s not my winch line. It’s my winch extension rope. But my winch rope (synthetic, 11,000 lb rating) is 25m long though. The extension rope is 30m, which I’m using in that pic straight onto my rear square hitch.
Some tracks out here a tree or suitable recovery anchor can be a fair way away, or the need to use a snatch pulley to increase pulling force but halves your effective rope length. So an extension rope is very handy. My first self recovery out bush wouldn’t have been successful without it, so it’s paid for itself already.

Re: What are you doing today ??
So after concert last night, took over an hour to get out of the car park and 2.5 hrs home due to 5 or 6 large sections of night road works on the motorway.
Finally home and in bed by 1.30 am. Up at 5.30am to get Jess off to work and school runs. Now have to drive back into the city to pick up Jess’ daughter after she attended a school formal last night.
Then Jess’ work do tonight…. my espresso machine is going to get a work out today!
I would go a get an hour or so combat nap before heading off, but I have builders here all week from 7am replacing a large section of my decking. So no chance.

Re: What are you doing today ??
Dump run to dispose of all the fronds from the yacca, except they treat it as general waste as they can’t mulch it and charged me just short of a $100 to dump it. That wasn’t even including the bare logs which I’ve kept to use in the fire pit or the stump I’m still trying to work out how to break down!
Off to the hardware store after that for material and home again and built a new garden wall where the mammoth yacca was. Is going to be a herb garden going forward.

Re: What are you doing today ??
This morning I had Mark coming to wash my car for free at 11 so it was an early start to get to Racepaint UK and back before then with the M1 being an unpredictable car park, XR outer fairings collected and home by 10, nice job on the fairing too.
Car all clean and shiny again and a visit from the company which installed our solar panels, apparently they had stopped getting updates from the system and had to replace the sim card, other than that they're all good.
Next up, a shopping trip and now deciding what to have for tea.
Tomorrow,
Hospital in York for an Ultrasound on my hand to see what's happening with the ligaments and again on Friday to get the results and have a chat with the consultant, hopefully I will get some idea of when I can get back to work.
