Talking to some guys from Australia yesterday evening, it's illegal not to vote there and you get fined if you don't. we could learn a lot from Australia if we didn't have our heads so far up our own arses.

So Starmer has promised to stop the boats, keep the UK out of Europe and dropped the winter fuel allowance for a lot of people.
I thought we voted for a change of government?

Government borrowing now 100% of GDP for the first time in over 60 years.
Tories have truly robbed us blind.

According to @KemiBadenoch, autism diagnosis gives children 'better treatment in school' and 'offers economic advantages and protections.' This is so far removed from the reality for many folks, no wonder her document is called 'Conservatism in Crisis'

Businesses won't be pleased with the NI increase.
I see Labour are just as scared about upsetting motorists as the Tories were.

The choice of new Tory leader is sending thousands of white middle aged men into meltdown on social media.
That's about the only bonus I can see from the appointment.

FTFY
Looking at what is happening elsewhere, one can foresee a plausible train of events here.:
Labour in power, having inherited something of a poison chalice in respect of the state of things, are unlikely to have an easy time in government. They will inevitably be forced to make (many more) decisions that will be unpopular with their own supporters. Even then, the opposition will be handed constant opportunities to criticise both their policies & achievements.
Meanwhile the Conservative party loose membership to Reform, or (in an attempt to avoid imploding from a mass exodus) amalgamate with them. Either way a new stronger far-right party will be the likely outcome.
Come 2029, we may be facing the same threat that France Italy, Finland, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Sweden and the Czech Republic are seeing.
The fact that Monty may be first against the wall will be no real comfort, because I may not be as far behind him as some may perceive.

They've been playing with UKIP since 2014. Bollocks about immigrants may attract the headlines but reasonable people know immigrants haven't been killing this country.

I've literally been saying this for a decade! If you don't measurably improve people's lives, the far-right will creep into power.StMarks wrote: ↑02 Nov 2024, 18:41FTFY

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
Not sure if I agree with your perception of "creeping into power". It certainly doesn't correctly describe the latest outcome that we are hearing from across the pond this morning.?
.
Uncle Vlad will be one very happy dictator this morning.: Only 24 hrs more of repercussions from his "little Ukraine adoption exercise", then Trump will end the war for him...

Not sure if I'd agree with that entirely...but I think it might make it more likely for extremism of one form or another to gain a foothold. 'Desperate times, measures, etc.'
