Two road rides on my MTB.
20 miles first, 5 miles second...so I don't even know if that really counts.

I've been to see a very large company about their first claim. It was an afternoon talking to a full boardroom of suits. It went well but I'm feeling very mentally drained. I thought I was going to see a couple of people in HR

Did my solo shift with the Cerbal Palsy guy.

Day started a bit rough as he had the sh*ts with his parents when I picked him up and he was in a foul mood. Then during the normal 20 min drive we got stuck on the motorway due to a major crash and it took us 1.5 hrs to get to the hardware store and he was spinning off about that the whole time (has OCD as well)

Luckily once we got to his work shift and a few dirty jokes later he was in a much better mood and he had a pretty good day.

Have a meeting with another provider tomorrow, who is local and their client base is 16-28 yr old autistic males. Covering all the same areas I was looking at supporting.
They’ve asked me to consider a role with them and I’m seriously considering it as it will be supported experience and learning in the exact area I want.

Today I have been having a good rummage through the cupboards in the kitchen looking at the wiring and plumbing in this old house...

Consumer unit.. nope, old wire Fuses with a pack of fuse wire.
Gas meter was brand new in 1990, so not earth bonded and on lead pipes, 3 different companies have sent gas fitters to install a smart meter and all 3 have refused to touch it. That's not going to be cheap.

Water stop cock, also not earth bonded.

And now somehow I have a boot full of paint cans for the tip... And a shopping list on my phone.

Also applied for another job but this one is night shift 4 on 4 off.

Didn’t happen. Staffing issues so the boss had to fill in and cancelled the meeting.

But also after I made that post the Govt announced changes to legislation around the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) and it’s going to get increasing harder and expensive to remain a support provider.

There’s been a lot of mis-use of funding and questionable provider practices in the last few years, so they are tightening up with it all. Down side is it’s going to make it harder for me to carve out an independent space in the field. Most support workers are going to be pushed to working under a registered provider platform. Unfortunately that’s not a level of income or security I’d be happy with.

In a case of spooky timing, I got rung today and asked to apply for a job. It’s at the local RAAF base as a Fuel Distribution Operations Tech. It’s the contract that I had been signed up to be a consultant on but the company I signed with, lost their rebid on the tender. My mate that had the distillery is working there and told his Manager about me, and the Manager rang for a chat. I’ve applied.

I’m conflicted.

The support space felt ready good in principle and made me feel good about myself. The reality has been rapidly changing and with less opportunities than I expected. People who told me they had clients for me before I started, appear to have been overstating their position and want me to work casually for them at a much lower rate.

The base job is a solid wage, 20 mins down the road, where I first worked when I moved to Aussie. I can do the job in my sleep and I’ll get to work with my mate again. Room for progression as well. I’d have the flexibility of being in the immediate area for the kids should they need me and home at 3.30pm everyday.

Having a few gins tonight while I ponder

Option 2 sounds like the more settled choice. It's regular work, limited stress and it'll make it easier to plan your weeks and your budget. If it doesn't work out you can always quit and look again at suppirt work.

Option 2 - you can always look again when you feel like it and see how it goes.

Nice to be wanted (y)

Yeah if option 2 comes to an offer I’m pretty certain I’ll take it. But as I’ve found out a few times, it’s not a sure thing till you’ve signed a contract.

Won’t be mentioning my spinal fusion at the pre employment medical this time ;)

I did get called today to do a fill in support shift. But unfortunately last night for the first time in the 14 yrs I’ve lived here I ran the water tank out of water. 4 teens and no rain caught me off guard. So a midnight run with the bulkie container to get enough for the morning and gravity drained it in over night. Today I’m doing a few runs to get more to cover till a delivery can be made. Now the neighbours are awake I can use the fire pump to transfer and it’s much faster. So couldn’t do the shift.

Going to a funeral. Sam's uncle. Typical that he should be buried on the anniversary of my father in law's death. They grew up together.

Cycling. Again.
The weather is perfect for it....I still need to get some different bars on this bike though...just can't ever seem to get used to the upright-type bars that are on it right now.

Been in Wales today on business.... bloody week of floods and diversions and hold ups.... glad to be working from home tomorrow, i don't want to go out again I am exhausted.

3 hours back from Swansea in heavy down pours takes it toll... it would be ok if it was just me, but the idiots around me beggar believe.
10 mins from home after the motorways and was diverted all over the place. Big floods that I have not seen on these local roads before.... was just like 3 hours of jams on Monday in Oxford !!! As I say glad to be home. so 10 mins turned into 30 mins... so close yet so far...

At least I was in a car, two bikers riding in this, i felt for them, one kitted out, the other was just full leathers.... :(

Cycling. Perfect weather for it today...I think it's supposed to warm up for the next week or so, so I'll enjoy this while I can... fall will be here soon enough, I suppose.
