Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
Should have stayed at Silverstone IMO until Wales is ready. Donnington is an embarrassment it has third world quality facilities and I bet the Taliban sh1t in better toilets in the Afghan wilderness. It also has diabolical traffic management for circuit entry on race day. Crap decision to go to a crap circuit IMO.

Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
I have to agree, Blade.
Despite Donington being good for viewing, as a facility its a dump and needs a fortune spending on it to bring it up to scratch. Silverstone can work for viewing if you can find a stand with a big screen opposite to watch the bikes when out of sight.

Just great, so everyone attending next years GP will either get cramp from standing up all day, piles from sitting on wet grass all day or a bad back from sitting in a camping chair all day.
What idiot decided to choose Donington over Silverstone? Silverstone is totally geared up for big events.
This country will be the laughing stock of the racing world in 2015!

The same idiot who thinks Motogp in the arse end of Wales will work, sadly.

Donington is a fantastic circuit that traditionally gives you great racing. It looks good on TV
They're not interested about those decent enough to watch it live.

Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
Dorna aren't bothered in local attendence i agree but they can ram it if they think I will pay £75 a head to go to donnington ( probably £200 for family general admission) which if others feel the same means donnington won't host if its a loss leader.
Honestly donnington is an embarssment IMO and Silverstone has come on leaps and bounds in recent years.

Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
I was amazed how much money and time was spent at donington and it looked exactly the same as it did before they closed it and spent loads of money on it. Im not sure how they won the gp for next year but I'm guessing large amounts of money was involved shame they did not think to using that to improve the facility's
"80mph" sorry officer I possibly could not have done that I'm no Valentino Rossi.

Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
It was never going to Silverstone once they and Palmer of MSV tried to torpedo the CoW funding, they set themselves up as an enemy of CoW from that point on so there was no way the GP was going there.Tuffers wrote:What idiot decided to choose Donington over Silverstone?
Fwiw whilst I love the idea of the proposed CoW I know the roads reasonably well round that way, and it's going to be awful trying to get in and out. It may well look good on TV around the world but I don't think it'll be any good for the paying public.

Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
sadly I think that all the major race series operators are trying to use the same business model as F1 , which is all about tv money they don't care about attendance , I know BSB charge in excess of £70k to host a round ( of course all the msv tracks are effectively exempt , which is why we have multiple visits to them ) , its an unsustainable model if the circuits are losing money at all the major events because the series organisers are creaming off any profits from tv rights and advertising.

Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
I agree wholeheartedly, it's not good for motor racing in the long term for the series organisers to expect circuits to pay to host a race, however I'm guessing the circuits do it in order to raise their profile and any consequent price increase for trackdays, smaller race series, publicity events and circuit business park rents. Just look at Brands - the place is steeped in history and is always jam packed, and tbh it costs more than other tracks for similar track time.
I may be wrong but it seems like hosting a GP is seen by the circuit concerned as advertising.

Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
The people running the Circuit of Wales are investment managers and i suspect are in it for the money they can make out of it.
Anyone who went to Silverstone at the weekend will know that getting that many people in and out of the new Circuit of Wales, which has no current infrastructure for events of this size, will know that it will be liking trying to squeeze 20 fat blokes into a old Mini.

Whilst I agree with most of what you say Duke, if the Circuit of Wales is ever built, I am selfishly looking forward to a 20 min drive to a MotoGP event or track day :-)

Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
My guess is you wont be able to get anywhere much at all in 20 minutes in a car. That gets you about at best about a mile out of Silverstone and they have roads built for purpose.

Re: Motogp returns to Donington for 2015
took me 20 mins from car park to Towcester , you obviously used the A43 , I cut across on the B roads - no traffic at all .
