I have the Saturday off and am about an hour from Skipton.

How about staying at the Tan Hill Inn? The pub from the Everest double glassing advert and the highest pub in Britain. Biker friendly and apparently very good food. Plus they normally have live music on at the weekend.

Even a travellodge outside Skipton is £200 for 2 nights

Have a look at Kendal itself. I looked last night and Skipton had nothing. Kendal had more.
