Yeah.. it’s horrendous at the moment. We were out that way on the weekend and it’s all that is on the local news, costing farmers so much in ruined crops etc.D6Nutz wrote:And now rodents...

My son went with his other ASD mate to their farm stay near Mudgee about a month ago. He came back saying he’d had a good weekend but the mice were a problem. I thought, he’s seen one or two and as usual, his ASD has focused on the negative.
Turned the news on that night and saw the article on the mouse plague! So in the end he did really well. I talked to his mates mum and she said they were everywhere, climbing curtains etc

So the mouse plague is marching east. Bilpin, which is only 10 km west of us has started to get inundated with them, and a few reports of them being seen here in the Heights as well.... time to buy a cat.
Makes for some amusing reading on the local FB pages though

I dare say the mice would over power most snakes... just a numbers game I presume. However, throw a few cats in there and hopefully the mice would scarper!

Fwiw I seem to recall learning that Cats were the way the Egyptians overcame their mice plagues, back when civilisation first began to encounter this issue.
They do also have snakes in Egypt, don't they... -Besides, snakes only eat one mouse, then sleep to digest it for a long period. Cats kill for the fun of it, and are pretty relentless.

That’s a big problem here. Especially where I live on the fringe of the National Park. I know a couple of people that actively trap and ‘dispose’ of wandering cats. Basically if your cat isn’t contained in some way (inside, netted area, harnessed for walks) you aren’t deemed a responsible owner by the general public.Kwacky wrote:That's the problem with cats.
