Prince Phillip - RIP
I guess it's no surprise. He was old and hadn't been well for sometime.
I wonder if Liz will carry on as Queen or step down to spend some time on her own.

Re: Prince Phillip - RIP
Met him once, well when I say met him it was more him just shouting abuse at me. Think it was some like "Bagger orf out of the way" from his racing buggy.

Re: Prince Phillip - RIP
Sad for the Queen as his wife and the rest of the family for losing someone but the nonsense about someone 'important' dying is already pissing me off.
8 days mourning for him but the other 128,000 additional who have died over the last year get a perfunctory minutes clap on the doorstep.

A man who did a lot and i liked the way he was. Sad but not a surprise given his age and latest health. RIP Sir.
I agree with Duke, the press and TV just go over the top with anyone from Prince to so called famous people. I have not seen any news since I woke up about general stuff... It has been wall to wall HRH.
Now they are scratching for news, so people who brushed shoulders with him over the years are being wheeled on and saying their piece. Oh wait some other news, oh its the weather.... as you were !

I get the impression that the media are worried they've going to be slagged off for not being respectful enough.
I dread to think what it's going to be like when the Queen goes.

Re: Prince Phillip - RIP
BBC have set up a website page simply for complaints to their coverage.
This is 2021, not Victorian Britain. I don't think they realise that the coverage just makes the end of the monarchy likely to happen sooner. Too many British seem to love being subservient to the privileged few.

There's a lot of people who are desperately trying to hold on to a dated version of this country. Flag waving won't bring the empire back.

Re: Prince Phillip - RIP
Jeez.... the guy is not even in the ground yet!
The Royal Family is something cool & (almost) unique in current times. Sure, they're a throwback, a relic of a bygone era, they're a slice of living, walking nostalgia, etc. - I get it.
But I bet they bring in far more money just in tourism alone than their cost to the British taxpayer. And they bring a lot of joy to a lot of people...is that really such a bad thing??
Their time will come I'm sure, but not yet... maybe Charles will be the one calling "last orders!" at closing time...but it won't be Liz - there'll be at least got one more generation at bat before the Royals declare.

I know. Just look at all those countries around the world with no royal family and no tourists. I bet they're kicking themselves.

I never get the 'they bring tourists here' argument. In fact i didn't even realise they did 'meet and greet' for tourists.

Re: Prince Phillip - RIP
Exactly.
Iran...no royal family - tourism = sketchy at best.
Somalia...a hotbed of royal inactivity, and also scores remarkably poorly on most people's lists of "Places You MUST visit in your lifetime!"
Etc.

Iran is on my bucket list, I'd go tomorrow. Incredible people and an extremely friendly nation. Don't believe what your dumbed down government wants you to.D41 wrote:Exactly.

Well, the "dumbed down government" wants me to believe that it's not safe "due to COVID-19, the risk of kidnapping, and the arbitrary arrest and detention of U.S. Citizens"Monty wrote:

... But you're saying that's all untrue, that's just patently bad advice, just a big lie, is that correct??

Re: Prince Phillip - RIP
Iran would be top of my list of places to visit if it were straightforward. Its a fascinating mix of East and west.
Have you read Lois Price book on her motorcycle trip through Iran, Monty? Brilliant read
