Here's a thing about my Sprint... It has new tyres which have not done many miles at all, But they were made in the last quarter of 2014.
I have not done any real miles with most of the ride home being on the A1 so can't really say if they feel 'off' I had a couple of little slips but the roads are a mess so I don't know if I need to shell out for new rubber, I can't see any cracking if that helps

Next time you take it out, check to see how the tyres are warming up and how soft the rubber is. They should be fine. Modern tyres are really good these days.

If it's your first time on those tyres then it could explain a lot.
And tyres that are over six years old?? - That could explain a whole lot more.
I'd be changing them ASAP if only to eliminate them from the equation... it can only help.

Good or bad, I'd change them. If I have any doubts (right or wrong) in my mind about anything on my bike, but especially tyres it affects my riding confidence.

Maxxis diamonds spring to mind. Less than 250 miles on them before I took them back of again, couldn't afford to change them but couldn't ride with them.

You'll likely find they're fine. As Kwacky said, see if they're warming up as you would expect them to and of course, set the correct pressures first.
If you were talking about track tyres then my answer would be different

They did indeed, as I can verify from my day with them.C00kiemonster wrote:....the now legendary Chris Walker Track day bikes had Maxxis on if i recall.........
The little Ninja that they gave me to ride was squirling all the time on those Maxxis which badly affected my confidence. Apparently that day was "too hot" (it was very, very hot though).

Re: How old is too old for a tyre?
So long as the squirling feeling you describe is predictable it isn't too bad but if it was a supercorsa, I would have zero confidence - they give up the ghost with only enough warning to generate fear.
