Re: Job Losses
I'm so glad I turned down a 9 month IR35 contract. It was close to home and take home would have been over £60k in that time but I chose security.

Re: Job Losses
They were estimating 4 million unemployed next year on the raido show i was listening too.
Estimates are that between 10-20% of those currently furloughed will be made redundant over the coming months, that's based on 9 million currently furloughed.

Re: Job Losses
Marks and Spencer are next up with the job loss announcements. They'll confirm details at the end of the week.
Ted Baker are axing 500 workers.
So many unemployed is a wet dream for a lot of companies looking to reduce wages and get cheap workers in.

Re: Job Losses
Someone told me that in Brum, they have lost John Lewis and also the big Boots, neither have reopened.
A lot of High Streets are going to become ghost towns.
In Cannock, they have nearly finished building a big retail outlet site. It was due to open in the autumn but that has now been postopned to next year. I struggle to see it ever opening.

Re: Job Losses
John Lewis is closing. That's a massive shock. It's a huge building and they'll struggle to find a new tenant.

I read that out of context and thought the whole of JL was going

My mate at HSBC has told me they've been warned of 35,000 job losses globally as a result of the current situation.

Re: Job Losses
My travel agent mate has had to lay his staff off today.
20 years of business gone. 2 people have worked for him since the start
He's absolutely gutted.

He's not sure. He's going to see if he can keep things just ticking over so he's still got a presence.

Re: Job Losses
Fingers crossed for him. I can't imagine what that must have been like having to let people go that you've worked with for so long.Kwacky wrote:He's not sure. He's going to see if he can keep things just ticking over so he's still got a presence.

Re: Job Losses
These are very dark days.
The hospice where mother in law was cared for in her last two weeks of life a couple of months ago, has closed 4 of its 6 shops this week. The hospice was on the national ITV news last week saying they were not sure how much longer they could carry on. Without that place and those like it, the NHS would just be under even more stress.

I know you'll find something. Hopefully a bit closer to home.
