D6, I have a stihl chainsaw that I process all my logs with. And everything else. It trims hedges , does fine carpentry and scares my dog. Having a log burner must be expensive if you don't have a chainsaw
BUT
I have used all kinds of tools. Big and and small, and I can say that a chainsaw is the single most lethal tool I've ever come across. If you get one, take your time and be careful. They are brilliant but deadly.
Sorry, I was misleading. It's anopen fire place not a log burner. Obviously I can and do burn logs on it (as well as coal).
Only ttrouble is I find logs burn awway quite fast. A true log burner would be good, and throw out more heat (most of mine goes up the chimney) but I can't affrod to convert it yet.
I have dragged some logs cut down on cannock Chase home, and have them drying in the garden. I then saw them up using a hand woods saw. It is opretty tiring.
You can get chainsaw trousers and overalls which are thick enough to stop a chainsaw cutting your leg or hand off. They will still make a mess of you, but they jam the blade so it stops.
My chainsaw is terrifying and I always want to the scared of it. Keeps me alert.
A hard hat with ear defenders and face cover built in are also good ideas IMO.
