And the Govt master plan to combat Coronavirus?
Work from home
How do you do that if you are a nurse? Or a truck driver? Even my job, I can only do about 25% from home.

Their stated strategy of intending to "recall to work retired Doctors & Nurses" suggests they may be intending to put those elderly (therefore most vulnerable) high liability (NHS pension) in harm's way as their first response.?

Re: Coronavirus - hype or pandemlc?
Govt. are the ones who co-ordinate the broader resilience picture for dealing with major incidents, and should be the drivers for agencies to get together and plan/respond to this type of incident.
They are also the visible icon/figurehead for people/communities to see so that tension/fear is kept to a minimum.
Things this Govt. are terrible at.

There isn’t really anything they can do. Just have to let it ride out but they might find they have a severe recession to contend with too.Blade wrote:Not defending anyone and genuine question, what should the government do?

I don't know what they CAN do, but what they WILL do is tell everyone to remain calm, the situation is under control, the current reality of the situation is not as bad as the public reaction to it, etc.
In other words, exactly the same things the local govt. in Wuhan said right before the sh!t hit the fan.

I fully agree, there is very little they can do, but it still wont stopped hatred and criticism being levelled at them.
I think regardless of political opinion which ever party is in government with something such as Coronavirus they are dammed if the do and dammed if lthey dont and what ever they do they will be judged unfairly with hindsight.

Yep...and that's sommit I forget to mention which I just read somewhere else....they need to be totally apolitical about it...this is not something to capitalize on from a political perspective...that will come later, from both ends of the political spectrum, no matter how things turn out.

Re: Coronavirus - hype or pandemlc?
I’d disagree - the Govt has a massive amount to do before any other agency, particularly health can act.
Perhaps not the parliamentary politicians side of Govt, who do have a part to play as well, but the Civil Servants underneath that come between Parliament and the people who will deal with this.
Not least agreeing on extra funding, resourcing from armed forces etc. It would probably surprise a lot how involved the Govt have to be.
Yes, the grunt work gets done by Docs, nurses, labs, etc.
This isn’t business as usual, and the Govt. need to act quickly and decisively, so everyone underneath can get on with stuff. Otherwise all the workers run about like blue arsed fleas in all directions.

The cynic in me wonders if the government will bring in new powers of control on the back of this crisis.

Government are arseholes anyway so **** them.
If it destroys their plans then frankly to me that is a good thing.
Hopefully a few of them will catch it.

News just said LA County has 8 or 9 cases now, all but one of which has "recently returned from overseas"....or however they termed it.

Just on the BBC news site. Cases have have risen to 163, out of a total 20,338 tested.
So that's 0.8% of people tested... Yeah, that's panic worthy breaking news right there...
