Best to keep it all in one place
Gove has confirmed that the Queen's speech will have a standalone bill on worker's rights. Pre-election pledges to safeguard those rights may have been dropped. We will find out on Thursday.

Johnson wants a law to ban support for BDS. BDS is an international organisation that supports Palestine and wants equality for those living in Israel.

Once again we're being shown that most people don't know the difference between criticising Israel and anti-Semitism.
It also demonstrates that the government is continuing to take away our rights to protest.

It states fairly specifically in the second link that BDS promotes the boycott of both Jewish AND Israeli products

Johnson wants to exclude some journalists from his briefings. Fair play to the other journalists for walking out.

I’m still fairly certain we are heading for No trade agreement with the EU, because the Govt doesn’t want one.
If that happens we are up shitcreek.

First sensible thing to come out of any of Johnson's orifices for ages.

Unsurprising. Johnson thinks Scotland are better off in a union.

Am I being too cynical, in that I can't help feeling that it has echoes of the tactics used in a certain political reform referendum ?
In that they are simply making a wholly agreeable statement of intent, that should be well received by the majority,,,,
,,,, without actually doing anything whatsoever & with no constructive plan as to it's implication or ability to be realised in reality.

Just a different way of taxing everyone tho they can claim it’s nothing do with them as it’s a local tax.
Even tho that local tax is subsidised by Govt funding, Govt funding that has been reduced by 60% in ten years.
The majority will be **** over royally by this lot.

Isn't it so that local government are responsible for paying for the promises made to the electorate by central government.?duke63 wrote:Just a different way of taxing everyone tho they can claim it’s nothing do with them as it’s a local tax..
- That way those who convinced themselves that they "must vote conservative this time" will field their blame for the extra cost at their local council.

Things look interesting in Ireland at the moment. SF are asking for a referendum on uniting Ireland within 5 years if they're being asked to form a coalition government.
I strongly suspect that NI's response will depend on how well Brexit goes.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
GDP for the last quarter of 2019 was 0%
I guess the uncertainty over Brexit and the general election didn't help things.
Production fell by 0.8% and manufacturing was down 1.1% As Duke mentioned yesterday, the motor industry did pretty badly.
Construction was up 0.5%
Overall trade deficit widened to £6.5bn

The daily allowance for peers in the House of Lords is now £323.
The monthly allowance for a single person on universal credit is £317.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
Cabinet reshuffle day.
Sajid Javid has resigned. He was asked to stay on but Johnson asked him to sack his advisory team. Javid refused and resigned.
Fair play to him.
Rishi Sunak is set to replace him. Who?
He's in at the deep end as the budget is due in under 4 weeks.
Smith's reward for sorting out the Stormont issue is to be sacked.
