I am making changes to my lifestyle.

Its a start.

If we don’t, changes will be forced on us that will have a significant impact on our lives and those changes might be made by Mother Nature, not a politician.

Single use plastics.
If in doubt, throw it out.
Wholesale disposal of unused medications.
Constantly lit & temperature controlled areas
Etc etc etc...

Most newer offices have presence detectors now though, it then comes down to the company/maintenance teams to set the timeout.

A lot of large companies are slowly starting to become more eco-friendly. Small steps, but my current client is switching to led lighting where possible, they also mentioned a couple of other things that I can't remember.

We've just had those led detection lights fitted at work.

And all of our documents are electronic. We file and serve everything online where were can.

Computerised lighting control, with presence detector switches, could save them £££ (as well as the reductions in environmental impacts).
However investing the capital in such conversions would require the approval of the financial controllers. < They will be accountants of course, hence the lights are all on 24/7.

In commercial offices, lighting is the least of the their worries when it comes to using electricity.
HVAC systems, computers, printers, copiers, etc., all use a massive amount of electricity compared to what it takes to keep a place lit up.

Its wasted energy, that is the point.

Using precious energy that we don't need to. Imagine if every office in the world stopped doing it?

Yup, and realistically that, or anything close to that, is just not going to happen.
Nor is it going to make any real difference to the climate change issue, because for every energy-saving item being plugged-in in the developed world, someone else is plugging in an energy-sapping dinosaur-bulb in Nepal, or Chile, or some other backwater.

I disagree with D41.

Change is happening, and those changes will make a difference. It's just the wind of change is very slow.

Good things have happened this week, a major supermarket has committed to reducing single use plastic on multi packs. It's not a revolution, but it's a start.

If we all just "make a start" overall it's a huge impact.

Not in the context that you're talking about. Which doesn't mean that "I don't care," rather than you raise them, prepare them for the world, and then they prepare the world for themselves.
Anyway, they're adults now, not really kids anymore.

I've just seen on twitter someone with an app powered hybrid hire car.

They've driven in the mountains in California.

No phone signal.

The car has shut down

A tow truck collected them to tow them 3 miles down the road where they could get enough signal to continue using the car.
