Re: The new improved fitness thread
No mate, I get the (apparently) cushy det in Qatar. It won't be all plain sailing though, I'm going to have to endure having only 2 gyms to choose from, only 24 hours a day in which to be able to go and eat the free mess food, but the real killer is only having 2 pools to choose from, indoor or outdoor!!!
I jest of course, there will be work to do out there, but I intend to be eating or lifting weights when I'm not working. And maybe even when I am.

Sounds hellish.
I might try and get into the gym this weekend. I need to get back into it.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
After losing over three weeks of training time to my archilles injury I'm going to try a 4-5 km run on the treadmill when i get up this arvo ( on night shift ). I've got to the point with the exercises the physio gave me, that he said it'd be right to start running again. Ive done three days out here in work boots and dealing with the endless stairs around the platform with no pain, so I think it's in good shape. Let you know how it goes.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Well we had a killer of a emergency exercise on sunday morning and I lost 3 hrs of sleep so I didn't go running till this arvo.
Started off easy, no incline, running at 5 min/km pace, as I clicked over each km I upped the speed by 12 sec/km (0.5 km/hr) and ran 1.5 km at race pace of 4.12 min/kms. gradually slowed back to 5 min/km over the last half km for a total of 6 km / 27.45min. Concentrated on running lighter, and avoiding the big heel strike I had been running with by landing more in the middle of my foot. felt really weird to start with, but was feeling more natural towards the end. Archillies gave me no bother at all, but I'll give it a rest tomorrow then try some moderate interval speed work the next day.
4 weeks till the race.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
I don't know if it would help you, but I find running with a slight degree incline actually helps me land better, it's much more on the ball of the foot than the heel. I've also read the barefoot running can also be good for improving your landing, but it does change your running style so not a good thing to try so close to the race.
I'm hoping that now my back is playing again I can get down to the gym for a decent session after work tomorrow. Also hoping to bump into the PT as now a new contract is signed I can restart the sessions with him again.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
The physio was the one that advised me to start with no incline, although as you say it'd probably help with landing my foot, it does extra stretch/strain on the archillies. I have a mate that does the barefoot running, he swears by it, but for me it'd kill my knees too much. Good luck with your return back to the gym mate, I've had back issues on and off for years and it can be a right PITA. Hope the new contract is going well too

Shoulders this morning.
Was going to go for a run this evening, but after perving at the kids' teacher all day and the horse fly bite really hurting more than it should I gave it a miss.
I was tired.

11 miles on the bike after varnishing the spare room floor....or how to go from hyper to hypo glycaemic in an hour and a half!
Felt really good to get out on it though - all the walking I've been doing has really strengthened my legs.

A total of 25 miles on the bike today (plus a couple of hours of sanding...). Really enjoyed that and burned a couple of thousand calories whilst doing it. Nice.

1 rep max overhead squats, front squats and back squats last night. MetCon followed by Olympic Rings and technique tonight!
Lost a stone so far in about a month and fitness and strength slowly improving. So hard to stick to a clean diet though!

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Just doing light cardio workouts at home now, no more lifting heavy weights, I'm down to 11 and half stone now the lightest I've been for nearly 30 years but tbh at 50 years old with out a top on I'm in pretty good shape.
I get knocked down but i get up again.
