Over looked this thread, but it's a slow work day today.. learnt a fair bit about some people I've known 'online' for a few years!
I'm Paul, 42, a kiwi (Obviously!) but live in Aussie (13 yrs), just out of Sydney metro in the hills (Kurrajong Heights). Married to an Aussie bird, two kids, 7 yr old boy and a 5 yr old girl, and they have changed the person I am like I never expected.
Started the 'online' bike chatter on daytona600.org when I bought the Daytona. First road bike since I was 23. Followed the crowd to tankslap "the original" but after crashing my bike rather badly at a trackday and going thru' some major life 'bumps' drifted off the site for a few years.
The bike is kind of back together. Still needs a paint, the new charging system installed, rebuild the left front shock (as I stuffed up last time and the compression screw won't move) and a few other bits and pieces. Been like this for 2 yrs now. I rode it down last week to get rego and hope this is the year it is fully revived!
I was in the RNZAF for 11 yrs as an Aircraft Tech working mainly on the A4 Skyhawks. Left when the woman lead government scrapped our Strike Wing. Moved to Aussie and worked as a RAAF contractor for 4 yrs then kinda accidently fell into the Oil and Gas game as a Refinery Operations Tech. Worked for Shell at the Sydney refinery till I got made redundant after 7 yrs when the place shutdown. Luckily picked up a new job straight away on an Offshore Gas Production Platform in the Timor Sea. I do a 3 week (day shift) on, 4 week off, 3 week (nightshift) on, 5 week off roster. Sounds sweet till you try 21 days straight of 12 hrs shifts 250 km from the closest land, but I'm getting used to it.
My posting is sporadic now as when at home I'm pretty flat out during the day and we have a "no online" policy in the evening at home so we actually communicate and spend time together. So most of my posting is when I'm stuck in the middle of the ocean at work... like now.
Main interests outside of bikes is photography, scuba diving, MTB and more recently running. I actually really dis-like running, but I need to do something for exercise out here and I like the results I get. Plus I run the City2Surf each year for fundraising and I'm stubbornly trying to break an hour this year.
And finally, I'm a clumsy accident prone twat... ask Monty
