On or Off the Bike - Noise

Does anyone prefer the sound of their bike when they're on it to when they're off it?

My mate with the 675R says he loves the sound of his while he's on it to the point he thinks it may sound better while he's on it rather than off it. Do any of you feel the same way?

(Please don't feel obliged to what the whole footage - just the stretch to Turn 1 is enough)

I followed a superduke on the motorway a while back, same cans as me without baffles. I was in the BMW with the roof down so got to hear the noise properly. Imo it sounded crap. But on my bike with the baffles out it sounds great.

The vfr sounds great when your riding it, but like hairdryer when it's idling on the drive.

The RSV with the modified stacks and open air box had an induction noise almost as loud as the exhausts. There was no way you could appreciate that off the bike.

So yeah, I reckon bikes sound better when your riding them..

Oh wow okay... see I'm the exact opposite to you in that respect. The only time my bike sounded better while riding it was with the standard exhaust as I could hear the inlet and it just sounded terrible with the standard can.

I love an RSV! they sound amazing regardless

On the bike. The induction noise from the 765 is ace.

My RC8 - off the bike, sounded great roaring past.

I have to say I'm quite liking the noise of the v4. It's very quiet and refined up to 7k, and the the vtec kicks in and it's like a different bike...

V4 does sound good I agree but do you notice the whine at about 3k from the gear driven cams

Induction noise makes thye difference quite often.

I went to Staffs Triumph today and there was a sweet Street Triple R there with a nice can on it. Sounded lovely but the induction noise on my Multi sounds just perfect to me.

Best bike I had for induction noise, was a kwacker B1H and that sucked harder than a Dutch hooker

Kwak know how to tune a bike. Even the Versys can sing if you get it right.

It depends. The ZX6R sounded crazy when at full chat listening to it screaming past me when I had that but when I had the 675 Daytona that sounded lovely with the induction road while riding it. I view it from both points in all honesty

Both sounds are pant-stirringly good.

I'd probably say off bike is better but then again, if you're on the bike then well, that means you're on the bike, and that feels better than just watching/hearing a bike go past.

Off the bike. You can actually hear the thing from behind as it was intended....without a helmet, earplugs, etc.
Like being in front of a live band vs. being backstage, where everything sounds like muffled crap.

On the bike in 90% of cases. Go to any race meet or trackday and there’ll be one or two bikes where the tune matches the exhaust perfectly and it’s sounds just magical.

Most bikes sound ok off, nearly all bikes sound great when you’re riding them hard, but there’s a select group of them that have a wood inducing exhaust note for innocent bystanders.

I wear ear plugs when on the bike but guess it sounds OK by the way people turn to see what it is. Not sure what it sounds like off the bike as no one has ridden it with me listening
I wouldn't want them ruining the perfectly preserved edges of my tyres and ruining my squared rear tyre anyway

I quite like the noise of my GB with its supertrap, no idea what it sounds like off the bike under load, but has a real rasp on it.

The Multi sounds good on it, but it’s standard, and the Termi on the Multi I hired in NZ was a cut above it. Having heard the Multi off the bike either.

I like both as I think you can here different sounds at different revs when on or off the bike.

On the SP2 when riding you only here the exhaust boom and it sounds amazing.

When I've heard some one else's SP2 ridden on a car park, so at lower revs all I hear is the whine of the gear driven cams and that sounds amazing too imo.

I remember the smell of two- strokes more than the sound. TBH I think they sound a bit high-pitched.
