To be honest the way the roads are now, both in condition and how heavy the traffic is, there's really no reason to object to them being nothing more than conveyor belts for cars.
Us old un's had best keep hold of some of our bikes as we'll be the last to enjoy motoring.

Surely manufacturers of high performance vehicles will be objecting to this. It will kill the product they have invested in heavily over night and potential lost sales could risk some manufacturers folding at worst and at best many people loosing their jobs.
Also how would the speeding camera companies survive and what about the government income they would loose from lost from speeding fines???

The government doesn't make much from speed cameras.
Speeding fines don't usually cover the cost of processing the fines.
Accidents cost a fortune. A fatal accident on the road costs the tax payer at least £1m.
Reducing accidents is a massive way to save money.

Really?? Where are the costs incurred within that figure?Kwacky wrote:

Totally agree, not looking forward when they do this, if it happens, its the times when you have a clear road and no traffic you would prefer a bit of freedomKwacky wrote:To be honest the way the roads are now, both in condition and how heavy the traffic is, there's really no reason to object to them being nothing more than conveyor belts for cars.

I best start saving for a used 911 GT3 before they triple in value.
Drive it ride for 5 years and then sell it for a huge profit. I'll tell the missus what a great investment it is for our retirement

Police investigation
Family counselling/police liaison costs
Coroner's time
Inquest time
Jury to attend inquest and/or criminal trial
Hospital staff
Morgue costs
Post mortem
Possible criminal proceedings and trial
I'm sure there's more

They are a very very small % of car sales. So they don't have the voice of say Ford or Audi. Yes, I know who owns those companies, but you get my point.Blade wrote:

There is a very weak argument to say that cars should be able to do more than 100mph. So long as they can accelerate quickly how do you justify having a car that can hit triple figures on public roads? You can't.
You know those overhead gantries on smart motorways with variable speed limits? Did you know that your modern car can already pick up their signal? The tech is already in place to remotely limit your speed. So it's not going to take much to implement it. In the same way, when you go on a private road, the signal will tell your car it's not limited.

Re: Mandatory speed limiters to all new vehicles within 3 ye
I imagine there will be a "Track" button which delimits it completely, however, as with all performance cars these days, that data will be sent to the manufacture and saved therefore if an accident or speeding offence occurs while that button is engaged, all liability will be on the driver.

Re: Mandatory speed limiters to all new vehicles within 3 ye
Most cars don't do over 110 mph anyway.....@80% of those that come out of Detroit, at least. And with super high-performance cars, at some point the tyres become the limiting factor rather than the power output of the engine, speed-limiter, etc.
Speed-limiters on a car don't bother me at all, but I wouldn't want one on a bike....there's a different dynamic involved when something with two wheels hits a performance wall....just like with a rev limiter.

Lambo and Ferrari were extreme examples.
What about 3.0litre and above Ford's, Bmw, VW, Volvo, Audi etc........ half of most manufacturers luxury, performances, executive car ranges could become very undesirable with a massively reduced customer base over night.

Re: Mandatory speed limiters to all new vehicles within 3 ye
Lets face it, how often do you see a car do over 110mph?
Unless you have 250bhp or more it isn't exactly a quick thing to get over 110mph so for 90% of Joe public it really isn't going to matter.
The likes of your BMW 530e or 340i drivers will be annoyed I'm sure... those cars are very quick and often driven by people who seem to want to prove their car is faster than yours.

That's the market I'm on about Cav.
Surely manufacturers with a high percent of vehicles in the premium sector which have high performance by default will be effected negatively.

I'm still waiting for a convincing argument for having a car being able to hit triple figures on a public highway
