Re: The new improved fitness thread
recovery run this morning.. a lazy 11 km.. wtf.. this training plan is ramping up a fair bit. Hill (or incline out here) intervals yesterday... I told the treadmill I hated it when I walked into the gym at 4.15 am this morning. Training and 12 hr shifts are proving to be more mentally tough than I thought.. having a bad head day today.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Blood sugars were sky high (16.1) this evening, not helped by a trip to Loaf on my way back from hospital...so I went for a speedy (for me) walk - 2.52 miles in 40 minutes at an average of about 3.5mph. It had the desired effect and my sugars had dropped to normal (6.2) when I got back. I think it shows I need to do about 40 minutes exercise every evening going forward.

Great self management Beermonster, it'd be easy to go for another pill to help you out, but so much better if you can sort it out the way you did.. good work mate.. great attitudebeermonster wrote:Blood sugars were sky high (16.1) this evening, not helped by a trip to Loaf on my way back from hospital...so I went for a speedy (for me) walk - 2.52 miles in 40 minutes at an average of about 3.5mph. Re: The new improved fitness thread
Another two days of slog on the treadmill. yesterday was 2 km warm up, 20 mins at 4.08 min/km and 2 km warm down. Today just a lazy 6.5 km recovery run. Rest day tommorrow!!! Then 80 min hill profile run sunday morning...
That's going to require a 3.30am wake up...
Can't wait to get back to dry land and do some road running again.

I'd love to go for a dive out here, I've seen footage from the commerical divers down the jacket legs... but alas, no I can't swim, and from the number of sharks I've seen in the water out here I wouldn't be too keen on floundering around on the surface anyway!C00kiemonster wrote:Can't you go for a swim?kiwikrasher wrote:Another two days of slog on the treadmill. yesterday was 2 km warm up, 20 mins at 4.08 min/km and 2 km warm down. Absolutley not. The lowest level of the platform is 14 m above the water, and you need all manner of permits to access the jacket legs below cellar deck, plus working at heights considerations, sea conditions etc etc. And thats in full safety gear, not in swimmers!C00kiemonster wrote:You can't swim and you work in the middle of the ocean?

I'm taking a week off. No exercise for the week. It won't do me any harm and hopefully I can spend time tackling these headaches.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Haven't been able to run since last friday, was getting alot of pain from my right calf/archilles tendon, nice lump on it just above my heel. Either badly imflammed or I've managed to put a tear in it. I'm due off tomorrow, got a Physio appt. booked for thursday. Looks like my training is going to take a hit.

I might have to start swimming yet mate! I'll still do the event, even if I have to walk the bloody thing!C00kiemonster wrote:

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Saw the Physio last night. As luck would have it he's a ultra marathon runner ( just completed a 100 km run last week!) and a very knowledgeable bloke. Reckons I'm going to have no dramas in getting right for the run, and even thinks my sub hour target is still achievable. He said the training program I've being following is way over the top and the cause of the injury and is going to help me revise it. Also reckons he'll have me training in a weeks time again!kiwikrasher wrote:Haven't been able to run since last friday, was getting alot of pain from my right calf/archilles tendon, nice lump on it just above my heel. So here's hoping!!

Sounds like you've stumbled on the right man.
I've enjoyed my week off but I feel very flabby and reduced in size. It's amazing how used you get to being in the gym a lot.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
I went for a cheeky 3 and a half mile walk last night (and bumped into Mrs Kwacky and the mini-Kwackies as I was setting off) which sorted out my blood sugars nicely. Weather's a bit rubbish today, but I'll try and get a walk in later, though the extreme housework I've been doing this morning has probably been as good as anything (filled another 4 bags of rubbish this morning!).

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Insanity appears to have fallen by the wayside.
We were doing it religiously, but with either a work commitment at lunchtime or just general laziness in the evening, we kept missing sessions and making excuses. We tried to get back into it, but it wasn't really happening. Then the missus suggested sex at lunchtime to make up for the lack of Insanity. Which was all well and good until we stopped doing that as well, preferring a nice cup of tea and a sandwich!

Strength training is still going okay though. Did deadlifts yesterday, approached with a massive amount of trepidation because recently my back has been hurting quite a bit. So I started with 2 sets of 12 reps with 40kg. Expected the worst but felt strong, planted and not a hint of any strain on the back, so upped the weight and dropped the reps.
5 reps at 80kg. No probs.
5 reps at 100kg. Once again, no probs.
5 reps at 110kg. Grip starting to fail towards the end with my small girlish hands, but back felt good.
Another 5 reps at 110kg. Once again, grip was the issue, but not my back.
I'm really happy with that. Weighing in at 81kg myself it's not going to trouble any world records anytime soon, but with my worries about my back having me thinking I wouldn't even manage 50kg, I'll take that as a win for now.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
One of the instructors at my gym is in the 90kg class. Yesterday he squatted 240kg and did a deadlift of 250kg. That's a class record. The git.
