Kwacky's ongoing Africa Twin Adventure Sport review

Time for a new thread I guess.

So the bike is due in just over a week. It's the Adventure Sport which has a host of features including adjustable engine braking. Its got a bigger tank and taller seat. I've ordered a lower seat which I'll use until I'm comfortable with the height and weight of the bike.

On order are:
Panniers
Tank bag
centre stand
fog lights
Datatag
Datatool tracker
Quickshifter (Stonesie's fault for having one on his MT, Duke's fault for telling me to get one)

Short term plan is to run it in until the roads get salted, then the Versys will take over.

There are a lot of green and muddy areas near me, so I want to try it out off road but I need to make sure I'm going where I'm allowed to go.

I'll be looking at tyres. It comes with knobblies but I might switch to the more road orientated Metzler Tourance tyres. They were on the KTM 1090 and I really liked them. They also do the Karoo which are more for the road than the Tourance.

Is it the white blue and red version? I’m thinking that is the Sports Adventure colours.

Yep. They only do the Adventure Sport in those colours. It's a 30th anniversary paint scheme

I do find it very odd that I've gone from sports bikes to a big fook off Adventure bike in a very short space of time.

Thing is these sort of bikes have suspension better suited to road use, even fast road use. They handle so much better than they ever used to.

Adventure bikes can embarrass sportsbikes on the road.

I test rode a GS and a Multistrada and unless you ride like a dick it would be hard to go any quicker on any motorcycle tbh.

One of the guys on Instagram has got one of these. He's told me to get an air dam. It deflects the air coming up from under the bike at the front of the tank. This in turn stops the head wobble you get and cuts down on wind noise. It's looks something like this:-

I've also ordered some side visors which push the wind out before it hits the handguards

Aside from outright performance the biggest plus for me is the ability to see the road further ahead than you can on a sports bike.

Visibility is king when you're on the roads these days. Both seeing and being seen. It's one of the reasons I've insisted on having fog lights fitted. There is a marked difference in being observed by drivers when I've got the foglights on when I'm filtering on the Versys.

Hmmm i am interested in how you find the bike, i am off to motorcycle live to try one soon so that gives me time to read your views on it
