I had two kids and the missus with me Rossgo, it wasn't fair to keep them hanging round in the wet.

At 12 noon imo it was clear it wouldn't go ahead. As you say plenty of standing water and as the trackside ground got wet it's ability to absorb drained standing water from trackside would deminish also so not going to improve for a while.

The forecast and weather radar I was using looked bleak and the sky's were as black as far as you could see.

To be fair we took some back roads to Coventry and there was standing water on them too.

I think the circuit did all they could but ultimately the inability to drain water which is to expected in this country puts the blame directly with them.

Let's see if they do the right thing.

Silverstone BSB is being restricted to the National circuit it seems.

I suspect they may offer free admission next year.

Silverstone wanted to wait till much later than 4pm before they cancelled. I believe race direction took the decision at 4pm but Silverstone wanted to race right up to dusk.

I suspect they had been reviewing their insurance and realised they were on a sticky wicket regards paying out for a no race scenario and wanted to avoid this predictacment at all costs.

I don't want to see Silverstone in financial difficulty but also it's not my responsibility to keep them in business.

BSB races were held there in similar conditions last year and I've watched stoner win at Silverstone in heavier rain than this year's event.

The reason given by Dorna for failure to host the event was, the new track surface being unserviceable and the drainage inadequate both of which are areas Silverstone have to be responsible for.

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Dorna are saying get it sorted or you won't be given a contract to host the event next year. I also think Dorna will be pretty angry if their race fans are left high and dry by Silverstone.

Case of watch this space I guess.

I suspect the biggest issue for Silverstone at the moment is managing to get any insurance cover for next year at any cost

I imagine fixing the drainage will be a prerequisite of any future cover.

How can they resurface without sorting a adequate drainage system, surely that's like buy a £100k Lambo without the handcrafted engine but replaced with a 15 year ford Mondeo engine?!

The resurfacing company apparently threatened legal action against Mat Oxley for his comments in an article on Motorsport magazine

on 28 August 2018, we published an article entitled "MotoGP Mutterings: 2018 British Grand Prix" on this website. This article contained inaccurate statements about Aggregate Industries and these have now been retracted. Aggregate Industries is working in close partnership with Silverstone and is conducting a full review of the track resurfacing to better understand the issues caused by the extremely wet conditions on Sunday 26 August 2018. Motor Sport magazine apologises to Aggregate Industries for publishing the inaccurate statements previously contained in the article.

It could be worse they could be threatening to tarmac your drive for you.

I bought two weekend tickets. Decided it was a no go at 1pm so drove home. Not had any email about a refund. Bird on BT Sport today said refunds will be given but no info for people who bought weekend tickets yet. If people who bought tickets for just the race get a refund then I want a pro rate refund plus it would be nice to be kept in the loop by Silverstone.
