Getting paint off metal
I may have sourced a damaged tank for my zx6r. The plan is to get it repaired and then resprayed. I'm waiting for photos to see what state it's in.
What's the best method for getting the old paint off and prepping it? I presume that the costs will be lower if I do a lot of the work myself so I'm tempted to see if I can take the paint off and clean the tank up.
Can I use something like nitromors or will that damage the metal?

It'll make you smile, then fall over and girgle. Closely followed by a trip to A&E. But it does work

Re: Getting paint off metal
Don't touch it,give it to me and I will get a price to do it properly it won't be much
If the paint is ok on it it will only need keying and spraying over ,no need for nasty paint stripper etc

Re: Getting paint off metal
Depending on how much the green costs, would it be worth while buying it OR buying a cheaper tank from anything, just to try a few thinners/removers to see how it works and how you feel about doing it??
Is sand blasting an option as well .... I cant see that costing too much plus it wouldnt be as harsh as shot blasting

Re: Getting paint off metal
Good ideas Spudda, but he's after £100 for that tank which is taking the piss given the state of it. I can get a brand new one for £250.

Re: Getting paint off metal
wow think the range on that tank is greatly reduced , personally would not touch that with a barge pole

Scrap that .... Sand blasting apparently heats up and warps the tankSpudda wrote:

Bead blasting is the way to go if you want to look for prices
