Liquid Crystal
I've ordered a small amount of this stuff http://gtechniq.com/products/auto/perfe ... id-crystal" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to try it out. It's supposed to provide good protection for paintwork and make it easier to clean.
I've got 100ml for now and ordered one of their applicator cloths. I'll let you know how easy it is to apply and how effective it is on the bike.
Gtechniq have a good rep in the car world and they do range of paint protection applications and coatings. I thought I would try something different for the bikes.

Gtechniq have a brilliant reputation. I used some of one of their other products on the Jag last year - it's all great stuff.

Re: Liquid Crystal
Used it on me old MBZ...it's VERY good stuff...the surface of the paint really does come out as smooth as glass....the liquid gets into the "fingerprint" of the paint and levels it out.
It's also a bit messy...not in application but when you remove it....it's an extremely fine dust (it has to be in order to work) that gets everywhere-and-then-some when you remove it.
Don't inhale it or you'll be coughing up chunks like a motherfcuker & running to the kitchen to chug down 13 gallons of water in rapid succession.
Not that I would ever do that myself of course...I read about it on the internet.
Somewhere.
Probably.

Re: Liquid Crystal
I finally got round to trying this out. It's a very fine mist so it's hard to see where it goes. I applied it using their cloth so it should have been applied correctly. The bike looks shiny, but it should, it's only a few months old.
I'll see how it deals with the rain. The real test is what it looks like after the next wash.

Re: Liquid Crystal
Just a quick update. I'm still using this stuff. The bottle is tiny so it does appear to be an expensive product, but you only have to use a couple of sprays for the entire bike. It comes out of the bottle as a very very fine mist, then you polish it off.
I don't have to use it after every wash so that's another reason why it's lasting. I find that next time the bike needs a wash if I've used the Liquid Crystal protection it only needs a quick sponge bath.
So it's one to recommend.

I'm still on the original bottle. There's loads left, you really don't need much.

Re: Liquid Crystal
Looks good stuff and doesn't seem badly priced tbh. When I saw gtechniq I started thinking expensive as some of their car products are in the hundreds of pounds.
Might give it a try.

Re: Liquid Crystal
That has made it look good. Clearly well worth it after 2 years of use

I'm still on the same bottle. The value for money is second to none. Such an amazing product.

Re: Liquid Crystal
Nice! It's good to invest in some quality product and it certainly makes cleaning easier.
What's the shelf life on these because 3 years is quite a long time?

Re: Liquid Crystal
No idea. I'm sure it degrades over time but the results suggest it's still working.

says 6 months from opening, but obviously still working pretty well!Kwacky wrote:No idea. I'm sure it degrades over time but the results suggest it's still working.
I've just looked and I can get this in Aussie, thinking of doing the 4WD so it's easier to clean post off road trips and protect from the light bush scratches.
What quantity do you reckon I'd need to cover the 4WD?

Re: Liquid Crystal
As it's a wipe on silicone sealant you won't use much but I would probably buy the 500ml but the 1L works out really good value.
This product sounds good as you can dilute to make a quick detailer for little top ups too!
