If you are job hunting, whatever you do don't quit until you have something solid to go to.

Trust me, the job market isn't great at the moment.

I'm going to increase my job hunting efforts again now and I absolutely won't leave until I have another job to go to, I have dependants.

The job market is full of stuff, but the salaries seem to have dropped. I've definitely got golden handcuffs here and if we get another 6% pay rise this december I'll be on higher rate tax... it's tough to find a job of equivalent salary.

I'm trying to balance long term with short term. I want to progress into management/leadership (which I found out they do those courses at my current place of work but my manager has never mentioned) and so I don't know if I should leave and try to go straight into it or pursue it internally.

I'll keep this one short.

No lessons were learned from our close to disaster failure of a TUV audit. Requests made for our team to sign off on what would ordinarily be signed by management because the thing asked to be signed off is known to be incorrect ,"but we'll correct it as part of a continuous improvement".

Could you imagine Porsche signing off a car knowing that the wheels don't fit over the hubs without the use of a pressing tool?

Yep. She's pulling her hair out. Let's just say there's intrinsic conflict of interest directly above her...

the company directors are ultimately responsible for any QC safety requirements and sign off so they need to sort their act out !

I hate working, but I'm bored of not having a job now.

I can find plenty I would love to do, but with no money coming in I can't do much.

I'm being asked to put my name against someone else's request because they are on long term sick.. f*ck no am I doing that!!!

"but I don't see what the problem is.." they say.

This is all to order something off the back of a VDU assessment, I shouldn't have to be doing any of this as the H&S manager is responsible, yet here we are (punch)

So we're at a stalemate because Purchasing don't know their own process.

An assistant in our team has handed her notice in.

It's good news for me as it looks like she won't be directly replaced. We'll get someone junior in, which means more work for me (hopefully) as I'll be taking on some of the departing lawyer's caseload.

starting up the platform process again post 5 day maintenance shut down... the wells are looking wobbly and a good percentage of us are hoping it comes back at reduced rates bringing us closer to the end :)

I'm in discussion with a company producing fantastic products.. I'd possibly/hopefully be entering Senior-ship.

I've had a phone call with the HR Director and am meeting with the Engineering Managers in 2 weeks. Biggest downsides are the need to go back to two vehicles and 2 hours a day commuting with no current home-working allowance, albeit adhoc homeworking is permitted if business permits.

One of the products they produce is the exhaust system for a top performing Formula 1 car, but they also do composites, additive manufacturing and much more.

Context:
I'm the only Engineer today across 3 sites. I have to setup and run 2 development batches and there's a machine that my colleague has been working on as Production haven't ran it successfully for more than 1 week.

I asked the section leader if they could get the wheels dressed and then I will come back and continue working on the machine for them, he knew the situation (only engineer) and agreed without question. I come back to see a note left on the dressed wheel... of course I needed to correct their spelling.

Apparently all production staff in that building were pulled in for a talking to... not entirely sure it was necessary but at least I had no part in that. I'm now dressing the wheel myself (because they did a dogsh!t job) and heading back over there afterward.

It's fair to say that 1 engineer is insufficient.

Finally heading home.. 2 hours late.

I had 5 minutes with the VP of Global Manufacturing just now when a member of the production team walked in and near as damnit ordered him to praise and thank me for my work today as we managed to get a job producing perfect parts in a few hours. That part has been turned off for weeks as no one can get it to work. That was nice!

Time to go home and drink wine now.

I’m pretty tolerant to a certain point, but if I’d been left a message like that, someone would be wearing that piece like a butt plug.
