Zero Hours contracts
The number of people on them is getting close to 1 million, but the numbers are said to be slowing down.

The rise in their use over the last 5 years is pretty shocking. How are you supposed to get a house and a pension (as the government tells everyone) when you've got no job security?

Re: Zero Hours contracts
You don't, but it gets you off the unemployed figures. Along with the thousands of people forced into self employment, check out the numbers for that.

Re: Zero Hours contracts
Most people on them are in favour of them....so from a govt. figures standpoint, "yes" they do look good.
Additionally, people don't get much of a 'work ethic' from sitting at home on their asses, apathy sets in fairly quickly.
Survival of the fittest.

Re: Zero Hours contracts
most people on them are desperate and hard done by , nobody in their right mind would intentionally opt for a zero hrs contract if there was anything else available , generally speaking they pay minimum wage , offer no prospects , no security and no benefits other than a pay slip - if you have been lucky enough to actually do any work that week .D41 wrote:Most people on them are in favour of them....so from a govt. figures standpoint, "yes" they do look good.

Long term unemployment can do that to a man

Er...yeah. I'm employed. And you have a pretty fair idea of what it is that I do, so I have no idea at all why you would write that.

Rees Mogg, one of the big players behind Brexit is all for zero hours contracts...and whilst we on the subject he is also quite happy to stand up in parliament and push the agenda of his main customers to his multi million pound company i.e. gas, oil and tobacco manufacturers.

Re: Zero Hours contracts
Darren. I think everyone thinks you are unemployed. I'm pretty sure a lot of your posts consist of you doing nothing and never talking about a job? We realise you used to have a trade but you have also said an awful lot about staying home, an accident, loosing your mind and being in , mental home etc that I for one can't keep up. Your posts have very little conviction to me at least at the moment. It just proves that I'm not alone here who is unsure who you really are. It sort of feels like a Catfish situation (US TV program) only on a forum!!

Re: Zero Hours contracts
Anyway as for Zero hour personally I don't like it. Some people do like it as it fits in well with their main jobs and they have it as a extra dosh job. However some people feel like they are stuck in the job and contract. It is down to the person to decide what they want, but full time jobs are getting harder to find, eg where I work the 24 hour shifts (x4) have no British working on them at all, that's 40 odd people day shift have 3 British. Is immigration a factor here?

Re: Zero Hours contracts
I don't work very often Ross. I have a bit of a niche job....it doesn't pay particularly well...nor particularly poorly, either. It has a few fringe benefits to it that I won't go into. It's a cool job...bit stressful at times, but overall it's kinda neat. I just kinda fell into it....right place at the right time sort of thing.Rossgo wrote:Darren. Re: Zero Hours contracts
Should occasionally being cannon fodder for the local drug dealers even be classed as employment.?
This zero hours contracts thing seems to me to basically be the latest incarnation of the same sort of exploitation that has been around since the industrial revolution. The exploitation that has always made a few very rich, but never those being exploited.
