Re: The new improved fitness thread
Recovery run tonight with a few sprints chucked in, total distance 5.7 miles averaging 9 min/mile.
Also found out I can comfortably run at a 7 min/mile pace and chat with someone..

Re: The new improved fitness thread
My first clean & press attempt yesterday AM. I tried 50kg and found I could comfortably do 4 reps for 3 sets. As it was my first time I didn't progress the weight as I wanted to make sure the form was right. Very enjoyable

Club training session tonight. Progressive 40, 4x8.5 mins and 1 session of 6mins. I started a 10 min/miles and got 30 seconds per mile faster on each session.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
I damn near killed myself in Wednesday's gym session - sweat pouring off me and a pulse so strong my stomach was convulsing.
It was pretty much my usual 3 groups of quad-sets (chest, shoulders, back, abs) but with lower weight and significantly less rest between sets (about 15-30 seconds). No care was given as to the number of reps, I would just rep until form failed and move onto the next exercise.
I was in and out of the gym in about 1 hr (including 10min cycle, 5 min run for knee rehabilitation) and WOW do I hurt now!!

Re: The new improved fitness thread
10k race in that there London today, big event with about 20000 runners. Not usually my kind of event, but it was still good fun.
Managed a new pb of 48:27, so happy enough.

My PB for 10K in my middle aged era (because the sub 40 mins 10K when I was in my 20’s is no longer achieveable or relevant) was 45.48, had a couple of good hills and similar number of people.
But right now I would struggle to even run 5K I feel. I just checked and I haven’t done any regular running since Dec 2015!!! I think you need to come over and kick my arse into gear Jon!

Re: The new improved fitness thread
I've just booked my first 10k race at Chatsworth in April, it's really hill one so not expecting any PBs. My current PB on the flat is a fairly paltry 1:08, but you never know I might get a tow on the day.

1:08 is good mate, don't knock yourself.Monty wrote:I've just booked my first 10k race at Chatsworth in April, it's really hill one so not expecting any PBs. My current PB on the flat is a fairly paltry 1:08, but you never know I might get a tow on the day.
Also, a hilly race is still a potential PB. My half PB is on a really hilly route.
Just remember the old saying "what goes up must come down".
Don't try and kill yourself running hard up the hills, you gain very little other than wearing yourself out. Use the downhill sections to make the time up and recover.

That's a good point, not thought of it like that. I should be able to roll half of the route!

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Just been to the gym and now struggling with stairs... Leg day sucks especially when it starts with 2000 steps on the stairmaster and finished with 10 mins of hit on the spin bike... But, improvements are being made.

You know you've had a good leg session when 2 hours after coming home you're struggling to walk up the stairs

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Today was fun, walking like I'd lost my horse (20 mins fast walking to loosen up a bit so I went to J&S and back) I blame the seat on that spin bike, my trainer was on the next bike and couldn't stay sat on it, said I must have an arse of steel... No, just too fecked to stand.
It's a paid session on Thursday so no doubt she will make me work hard as usual.
Tomorrow, upper body session before work because I am silly enough to do that.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
NIce.. I always found Chest and Arms were a bit of a 'chill' session; even if I struggled to ride my bike home from the gym.
Tuesday night I did a lot of reps on my legs with less than 15 seconds rest between sets to take out some frustration. I don't have DOMs but I can feel the VMO is very tight still.
Last night I was still feeling frustrated from within so took a bit of anger out on a 1.5 mile run with pull ups and dips every lap of our field. 5 laps, 50 reps of pull ups and dips. I feel good for it but my hammys and calves are tender today.
Foam roller tonight

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Went out for a lovely muddy 6.5 mile trail run last night. First trail run in a couple of weeks and it was great.
Feeling a massive dose of couldn't-be arsed-itis this morning and left the push bike at home. Going to tube it to work for s change.
