May I refer the Honourable Gentleman to his earlier post?

Sole engine supplier?? Does that mean they're sending them just one engine??

Yeh but to go to all the trouble and then not sell a road bike equivalent?Kwacky wrote:duke63 wrote:Must mean a new Daytona 765 is coming then.

They're only selling an engine. It's based on the 675 engine and it's an engine they're using for the new Street Triple. No design costs or new tooling.

Re: Triumph official moto2 engine supplier from 2019
The race specification Triumph 765cc Moto2™ engine, based on the powerplant that fuels the 2017 Triumph Street Triple RS, has been developed further to allow the engine to breathe more freely and rev harder than the production bike; increasing overall performance. Other changes have been made specifically to adapt the engine for race use, including these modifications:
Modified cylinder head with revised inlet and exhaust ports for optimised gas flow
Titanium valves and stiffer valve springs for increased rpm
Low output race kit alternator for reduced inertia
Taller 1st gear ratio
Tuneable race developed slipper clutch
Specific race ECU; which will be developed with Magneti Marelli
Revised engine covers for reduced width
Different sump to allow for improved header run

that sounds quite nice , I heard it'll be pushing out 140 bhp not seen power figures confirmed yet though .

Re: Triumph official moto2 engine supplier from 2019
I'd imagine they'd have to produce similar power to the current Moto2 engine which is 140bhp I believe..
Surely the extra capacity could push 150bhp?

Re: Triumph official moto2 engine supplier from 2019
But it's a triple so the power drops off. 140 bhp is doable.

I've yet to see it confirmed but 140 ponies and 80 torques and 13,500 rpm is what the rumour mill is sayingPerkles wrote:What bhp do they put out ?

Re: Triumph official moto2 engine supplier from 2019
The CBR600 engine has been very reliable. But Honda have produced thousands of them since 2004 so they've got a lot of hours with them. I don't think that engine has changed since they put it in the 2005 cbr600rr.

Re: Triumph official moto2 engine supplier from 2019
In '13 they changed something but I believe that may have been the exhaust for emissions?
The stock 600rr powertrain is so down on power compared with Yamaha and Kawasaki. It's no more reliable than the Kwack and Yam either - although you may beg to differ haha.
What are Honda doing about a "supersport" bike then? Are they going to drop any bike completely or find a replacement that has superchargers or 800ccs?

Re: Triumph official moto2 engine supplier from 2019
It's not just my experience with the zx6r. The racing forums are full of tales of the 09-12 engines going pop. A few racers were failing their engines on purpose so they could swap them out. That's why the engines were so expensive, because of the massive demand for them.
Even the salesman at Kwak Birmingham told me about the weakness in the bottom end. Kwak changed a few parts in the 2013 engine to deal with it.

Re: Triumph official moto2 engine supplier from 2019
They're struggling to start the engines on the Moto2 bikes. The old rollers aren't strong enough so they've having to bump them, which is difficult due to the longer stroke of the triple
