I wonder how many people will forget about the photo verification.
Even if those who forget don't spit their dummies out & not bother returning, I suspect we may be in for record low turnouts.

My personal view is not voting is like saying you're happy with things the way they are.

Even if your vote doesn't elect an MP, the numbers of support for other parties are recorded. Let's put pressure on electoral reform.

100%. I'm the last person to be authoritarian but voting should be made a legal requirement with the option to spoil your vote.

I think (someone on here will know for sure) that in Australia it is mandatory to vote, punishable for those who do not.

The real problem as I see it, is that the democratic system we are voting for (irrespective of outcome) is not working properly for the society it serves.

Anyway, I've voted.

Funny seeing the Tories getting smashed. It's a shame they're going to be the opposition party but it was too much for LibDem to overtake them.

I know of loads of people who didn't vote. To be fair to a few, their motives could be understood. However a large proportion didn't vote because they simply couldn't be bothered,

Starmer is against electoral reform. He even said he's keeping voter id

There's an investigation going on in to some Reform candidates. Apparently a few of them don't exist.

I hadn't realized until just the other day that Farage wasn't actually an MP. Obviously he is now, but he's gotten a lot of press over the years considering his previous lack of MP-ism. I expect now he'll be even smarmier than ever.

Yeah legal requirement here at all levels of government. I’ve missed voting twice (not on purpose) at council and federal level. Luckily my offshore job was a get out of jail free ticket as they never make me prove I was actually offshore

It’s a fine only, differing amounts depend with government level. Council level is the most expensive funnily enough, think it was around $70-80. Federal election was $55.
