Sorry to hear he's passed away. Lived for 100 years, served his country and raised millions for the NHS charities.

There's a petition for a state funeral and a national day of mourning.

He was a great bloke, served his country, highlighted the issues with the NHS and appeared on Blankety Blank. But there's loads of others just like him, serving their country and doing great work for the UK.

Surely when there's so many on the streets and suffering with mental health issues the money should be put towards helping them instead?

Agreed. He doesn't deserve a national day or state funeral ffs.

He walked round his garden a lot. A good achievement but hardly hero material.

State funeral is laughable tbh.

If the Govt did their job properly then we would not need others to raise funds for necessities in a civilised society.

Too many people are taking out their anger with the government on Tom's passing which I don't think is acceptable. The man was amazing, we should all agree on that, but it was the government that made people like Tom feel the need to fund raise millions.

I think ‘amazing’ might be overdoing it a bit.

The amazing ones are those who go into a covid ward every single working day as part of their job and endeavour to save others whilst putting themselves and their families at massive risk.

They are the ones who deserve big pay rises and medals of honour from their country.

I dont agree he is one of those people that would do this kind of thing anyhow and probably bored out of his skull at home,its got fa to do with the government no matter how useless they are

It has everything to do with the government. If they hadn't been fleecing the NHS for every penny they're worth and stopping bursaries and grants encouraging new doctors and nurses into the NHS then it wouldn't fall on the public to give charity to the NHS. NI and taxes should be enough to keep it going. Because they needed the publics charity, people like Captain Sir Tom did what they did and that should be celebrated.
