None at all. I only ride in the daylight but if I get caught out and it's dark I can simply remove the cover. Regards no mirrors I just look over my shoulder its quite easy tbh and I don't find it as disadvantage.
As far as I'm aware its legal unless you can tell me different which if it is please do as obviously I would need to know.

I believe it is legal to ride without mirrors.
Lights are a different matter. If they were fitted at the time of MOT then they have to be there. Covering them up could be a grey area but I bet some cops could be picky.

But dont some of the track bikes with a V5 have a daytime MOT and road legal ??

That's not the same, Spudda. As i understand it, if you have lights fitted they must work.
Does the SP2 have lights permamently on, Blade?
My 748 doesn't as it was built before that became a legal requirement and your SP2 may be the same but i'm sure if they are permanently on both Plod and your insurance company may take a dim view of them being covered.

Yes, and for what it is worth, there is no such thing as a day time MOT.
I've looked into this, you cant have some of the lights and not others. If a brake light is fitted you have to have all lights. If there are switches fitted (ie not either removed or permanently covered up) then they lights have to be working. Although I know some MOT places aren't so strict (or maybe don't realise) . Its a real grey area.
The only thing you need to pass the MOT is a horn, number plate and (I think) a reflector.
(Although I believe some do pass without reflectors).

A motor bicycle first used before 1 January 1931 does not need a headlamp.
A motor bicycle is only required to have a dipped-beam headlamp (but may also have a main beam) if it:
. was first used on or after 1st May 1995 and cannot exceed 30 mph / 50 kph with an engine capacity not exceeding 50cc. or
. was first used before 1 January 1972 and with an engine capacity of less than 50cc.
. any machine having a maximum speed not exceeding 50km/h/30mph

I had one when I first got the CB1R but never put it on, now I can't find it.

Duke my bike is an 04 model and lights are hard wired on. The 03 model had a switch to select on or off.

Can you buy an 03 model switch Blade? I bought a TT600 switch for my Daytona 650 and retro fitted it so I could turn the lights off on that.Blade wrote:Some great advice guys thanks.

Asked the MOT tester today about headlight covers, he said quite simply. If they are fitted to the bike at the time of the MOT then I'd have to fail it.
For my own piece of mind I also asked about retro-fitting a headlight switch. This is apparently not an issue, as long as both the switch and headlight(s) are fully operational.

So its legal to fit a switch and turn the lights off but not cover them up. That makes little sense to me but understand the wording and why its implemented just think its ironic.
